[Methodological bases for designing multipurpose laboratories].

Abstract

A well-grounded selection of the necessary minimum of measuring facilities is of paramount importance in projecting multipurpose laboratories. These facilities should ensure the required accuracy of analyses to be carried out, and measurements covering the whole dynamic range of the values variations. It was suggested to organise new multipurpose laboratories in accordance with technical and economical reasoning and with the calculated generalized index which shows a compliance of technical characteristics of the measuring equipment chosen with the methodical demands.

An impact assessment of the European medical device regulations implementation - the current status quo.

BACKGROUND: This research aims to assess the current impact of the medical and in-vitro diagnostic devices regulations (MDR/IVDR) on the device industry in the EU, under the lens of postimplementation and the amending regulation, and in advance of the final transition to the IVDR/MDR in the future. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: A quantitative survey was administered to a diverse cohort of medical device enterprises, ranging from micro to large organizations. RESULTS: The survey indicates that the MDR/IVDR has harmed innovation, leading many manufacturers to seek initial device approval and launch elsewhere before in Europe. There is evidence that some manufacturers have rationalized their existing product portfolios and removed devices from the market as they stated they would in previous industry surveys. The MDR/IVDR has been shown to negatively impact manufacturers, with increased costs related to notified body (NB) fees, maintaining and updating documentation, recertification fees, and hiring additional staff. CONCLUSION: This study provides a current status of the effects of MDR/IVDR on manufacturers and finds that despite amending regulations and other interventions taken by the EU to mitigate regulatory burden, ensure product availability, and address stakeholder concerns, the EU is no longer the market of choice for new products.

Noninvasive treatment for erectile dysfunction in the neurogenically disabled population.

Erectile dysfunction is the most prevalent sexual dysfunction in neurogenically disabled men. Studies of rehabilitation patients indicate that the restoration of sexual functioning is considered an important priority. This article reports on a pilot study of vacuum tumescence constriction therapy as a noninvasive method for use by a population with traumatic or nontraumatic neurologic disorders such as spinal cord injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, and diabetes mellitus. Of the 30 patients who participated in the study, 17 purchased the device and over 50% of them reported using the device on a long-term basis. Frequency of coitus increased from 0.3/wk to 1.5/wk. Included in the study are methods used by patients to integrate the device into their sex life, the role of the patient's partner in the decision to purchase the device, and the rate of partner satisfaction. There were no reports of substantial morbidity. Thus, this method shows promise as a noninvasive treatment for men who are moderately to severely neurogenically disabled.
