Developing a clinical faculty practice plan in a university clinic.
Abstract
In this article, the authors explore the evolving concepts and procedures for developing clinical faculty practice plans in a university setting. The objectives of a clinical faculty practice plan are reviewed in the context of the initial planning process, which must be undertaken in order to develop a successful plan. Several types of organizational structures that may be tailored to the clearly identified missions of the university-related medical center are described. The authors then discuss various aspects of each of these types of organizational schemes, including the methods for structuring revenue participation between the clinic physicians and the medical school, the perceived need to control the amounts of earnings of the clinic physicians, and the factors to be considered in conducting the internal operations of a practice plan.
