In line with the emphasis placed by nursing development units on critical scrutiny and practice evaluation, the authors review the patient empowerment nursing literature to identify its practical implications for their clinical area and staff. This article presents some early conclusions arising out of this process and highlights the conflicts which nurses face in ensuring that patients are empowered while maintaining their rights and privacy.
This is the first of two articles on training for key workers in mental health. In this article, current mental health policy is examined and the conflicts this may cause for mental health key workers are discussed. The author also describes a two-day training programme that has been set up to help key workers manage the conflicts of their role. Next week, participants' impressions of the programme to date and the implications of their responses will be explored, highlighting issues for further debate.
The relation among physicians is quite frequently characterized by conflicts. The different types of problems which may come up are discussed, and finally the author tries to formulate some rules which could improve the situation.
