"Inflammatory pseudotumor": what is it? How does it behave?

Abstract

Inflammatory pseudotumor, as a histologic diagnosis and carrying with it the prospect of a benign clinical course, is rather firmly entrenched as a pulmonary lesion. Extrapulmonic forms, however, are farraginous and, as reported, have included lesions having few, or even none, of the histologic features of those in the lungs. For those more closely aligned with the fibroblastic or myofibroblastic phase of the lung lesions, their biologic behavior can belie their histology in that they can be locally aggressive and metastasize as sarcomas. For those tumors in the upper airway, and especially in the abdomen, pathologists should be very circumspect in the use of inflammatory pseudotumor as a diagnosis, and clinicians should not be lulled into denying the extrapulmonic forms their due respect.

Meningeal plasma cell granuloma with relapsing polychondritis. Case report.

Relapsing polychondritis (RP) is a rare systemic disease characterized by recurrent inflammation of the cartilaginous structures and connective tissue. Central nervous system lesions in association with RP have occasionally been reported, but intracranial mass lesions have not been described. The authors report the first such case, in which a 51-year-old man presented with parasagittal meningeal plasma cell granuloma with RP. The mass was subtotally resected and adjuvant radiotherapy was administered. The patient did not experience any recurrence of the lesion during an 8-year follow-up period. In this case, the exact diagnosis of RP was made based on symptoms of respiratory tract chondritis, which was successfully treated by the placement of tracheobronchial stents.

[Renal pseudotumor secondary to acute pancreatitis. Report of one case].

We present the case of a renal pseudotumor corresponding to a esteatonecrotic granuloma, secondary to an enolic acute pancreatitis a few months ago. The main caractheristics, diagnosis and terapeuthics of the renal pseudotumors are discussed with the case report of a 60 year old man who presents a renal mass founded incidentally at a control computed tomography.
