Abstract

Reports on the changes in national dental manpower levels do not describe the variations that exist at the state level. An historical and prospective review indicates an increasingly more uniform distribution of professionally active dentists (but not specialists). Despite increasing numbers of practitioners, unserved populations continue to exist in many states.
