Abstract

Using Katz's classification scale, a panel of experts--nurse managers, nurse academics and professional and industrial nursing organization representatives--identified roles expected of first-line nursing managers in New South Wales hospitals. The 156 competencies defined by this group were classified into technical, human and conceptual skills. Classifications determine the manager's responsibilities, authority and performance accountability.

Results of a local modified Delphi consensus on use of plasma metagenomic next-generation sequencing.

Molecular tests without well-defined test performance characteristics are increasingly available for diagnosis of infectious diseases. These tests present a diagnostic stewardship challenge for institutions. We share the results of a local modified Delphi consensus undertaken to define appropriate scenarios for use of plasma metagenomic next-generation sequencing.

Research priorities in occupational medicine: a survey of United Kingdom personnel managers.

A Delphi survey was carried out in an attempt to identify areas of priority in occupational health that should be targeted by research. Previously 53 occupational physicians identified and ranked these areas. These were then assessed by personel managers. There was considerable agreement on priorities between the two groups with musculoskeletal disorders and stress securing the highest ranking.

A review of Delphi surveys conducted to establish research priorities by specialty nursing organizations from 1985 to 1995.

Many nursing specialty organizations have completed Delphi surveys to establish their research priorities. The Society of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Nurses (SOHN) is currently conducting its own Delphi survey to the same end. This paper reviews the various Delphi methods employed by specialty nursing organizations on their members between 1985 and 1995. The studies reviewed are carefully limited to those commissioned by specialty nursing organizations and exclusive of those conducted by independent researchers who may have utilized specialty organization members. It presents an introduction to and definition of the Delphi methodology, as well as delving into methodologic and practical aspects of implementing a Delphi survey. It adds to the literature some information previously lacking on cost and time lines for studies, and will serve as a useful guide for future specialty nursing organizations who undertake a Delphi study as a novice effort. It intentionally does not recount the research priorities identified because it does not want to influence, in any way, responses of SOHN members involved in the ongoing Round I Delphi.
