Necrotizing periorbital cellulitis.

Abstract

We report traumatic necrotizing periorbital cellulitis attributed to group A beta-hemolytic streptococci in a 4-year-old child. The infection was successfully treated via surgical cleansing, drainage, and grafting. The virulence of this organism requires an aggressive approach to the patient with periorbital cellulitis, which is refractory to intravenous antibiotics. Early treatment may limit extensive eyelid necrosis, the resultant secondary deformity, and the need for multiple reconstructive procedures.

Acute acquired comitant esotropia after orbital cellulitis.

Acute extraocular muscle restriction in children is a rare condition; orbital myositis is the most common cause. Most neuropathic or myopathic causes of strabismus present as an incomitant deviation. We report a case of orbital cellulitis preceding acute comitant esotropia in a patient showing no evidence of myositis or neurologic pathology.

Perineal cellulitis as a late complication of trans-obturator sub-urethral tape, Obtape.

The authors report the case of a perineal cellulitis occurring 10 months after the surgical treatment for stress urinary incontinence with a trans-obturator sub-urethral tape, Obtape (Porgès). This is a very rare complication related to a prolonged intra-vaginal tape exposure and infection that occurs after vaginal erosion, possibly due to tape rejection. This complication has been described with Obtape and with Uratape. The former lacks a sub-urethral silicone coated section that distinguishes it from Uratape. We still do not know much about the constituents of these types of sub-urethral tapes specially about their human tolerance, and we should therefore look at them carefully.
