[Computer tomography in implantology].

Abstract

During the planning of implantation the CT method helps in determining the location of the implant and aids in choosing the right implant. It provides the following measurable information about the jaw-bones: height and width; exact location of bone deficiencies; the orovestibular shape of the alveolar process; the course of the mandibular canal; the location of the mental foramen; the location and size of the canalis incisivus; the area of the nasal cavity and the maxillary sinus; the quality of the bones and the relationship between cortical and spongious bone. In comparison to the X-ray examinations possession of these informations increase significantly the safety of planning before surgery.

[Unilateral cervicofacial emphysema after dental treatment. Case report].

Subcutaneous emphysema is characterized by the presence of air or other gases in the subcutis after a spontaenous or traumatic interruption in a air-carrying structure. We describe a patient who developed unilateral facial swelling after dental treatment. Considering the history, differential diagnostic possibilities and the physical examination, we diagnosed cervicofacial emphysema.

Analysis of the use of expansion osteotomes for the creation of implant beds. Technical contributions and review of the literature.

Sometimes, the severe superior maxillary atrophy compromises and even impide oral implants treatment. The use of rotatory instruments (drills) produce heat and lost of bone, but the osteotomes in implantology avoid this and simplifies the surgical treatment allowing implant installation with an easier technique. We present an expansive maxillary technique review, describing the main indications, advantages and disadvantages of this surgical procedure.
