[Practical subjects of reference interval].
Abstract
A concept of reference interval was first proposed by Dybkaer in 1973 in order to avoid an ambiguous definition of so-called normal range. This concept was succeeded by IFCC Expert Panel on Theory of Reference Value and the recommendation for the concept of reference value was documented in 1987 from IFCC scientific committee. Finally, NCCLS proposed the document for Reference Interval, how to determine, utilize the reference interval in clinical laboratory, in 1992. In this paper, how to determine and utilize the reference interval in clinical laboratory are described and discussed based on the concepts of NCCLS and IFCC.
