The split-post lock: an alternative lock for hinge clasps and swing-lock removable partial dentures.
Abstract
When the locking component of a prosthesis loses its effectiveness, the solution has been to replace the component. This article describes a procedure for the production of a split-post lock. This lock can be used as an alternative in the construction of custom-made hinge clasps or for swing-lock dentures. If a loss or reduction in lock strength occurs through wear of components, then this split-post lock can be reactivated. A procedure in which this lock can be used to replace a worn swing-lock latch is also described.
