An effective technique for denture border evaluation.

Abstract

Proper extension and adjustment of denture borders is a critical component in successful removable prosthodontic treatment. Unfortunately, commonly marketed disclosing media may not provide appropriate viscosities for the accurate assessment of denture border extensions. This article provides a technique for the mixing, unit-dose packaging, and utilization of a disclosing medium that is extremely well-suited for denture border applications. The technique employs commonly available materials and compiles with current "unit-dose" guidelines.

Design sequence and mouth preparation for the removable partial denture.

This article discusses the procedure for designing the "best" removable partial denture. The best design will preserve the abutment teeth and the edentulous ridge. The restorative dentist's task in making an RPD is not to try to maintain function as it had been prior to tooth loss but rather to preserve what remains of the oral mechanism.

Prosthetic management for edentulous glossectomy patients.

The prosthetic treatment of edentulous glossectomy patients is very difficult. The tongue defect results in oral dysfunction and affects the stability of the mandibular denture. The appropriate denture form and occlusion can be established by using the modified functional impression technique. Through the use of x-ray television and an image-processing system in clinical experiments, it was shown that a wide buccolingual table, an occlusal table height matched to that of the tongue body, and close adherence of the tongue and the lingual flange are effective means of preventing food from dropping to the oral floor, keeping the food on the occlusal table, and crushing the food.
