The study intends to statuate the theoretical foundations concerning the etiopathogenesis (of endocrinological origin--tetany) of the myofacial pain dysfunction (MPD). We want to demonstrate this affirmation knowing that there is a very important correlation between the endocrine glands and the muscular stomatognathic activity. The EMG exam in tetany for the masticatory muscles proves that there is a repetitive asymmetric bioelectric activity even for the rest positions.

Tablets valcophen, which are containing the pyrimidine's derivative, have an acute anticonvulsive activity. Tablets valcophen and granules phenobarbital for children are having the same activity, which have been marked about lower intensity convulsions, quantity of a lived animals and also lengthening a time of deathing mice. These investigations are showing that tablets valcophen may be used for treatment convulsive state in children.
The paper presents a model of diagnostic and therapeutic management of tetany, with special attention paid the role of magnesium and to psychotherapy or psychiatric treatment. Two types of tetany are distinguished: manifest and latent (spasmophilia). The former, due to hypocalcemia, is relatively rare and usually postoperative (parathyroid tetany), while the mechanism of the much more common latent tetany or spasmophilia involves hyperventilation and magnesium deficiency. Latent tetany affects particularly young women. There are many signs of spasmophilia, but none is specific, so this pathology is difficult to diagnose.
Calcitonin (CT) secretion following stimulation was studied in 9 young women suffering from spasmophilia, this having been diagnosed by clinical and electromyographic criteria. The controls were 9 women, matched by age, who responded negatively to the diagnostic tests. After rapid intravenous infusion (60 sec) of 4 mg/kg/lean body mass of calcium (as gluconate), CT concentration increased measurably (p less than 0.0001) in the controls, while remaining unchanged in the spasmophilic. The average increase per cent vs. the baseline values was 225% in the controls and 34% in those with spasmophilia (p less than 0.005). 5 out of 9 of the patients showed a completely flat curve. This finding, due to a diminished CT reserve in spasmophilia, may be considered a possible diagnostic feature as well as a fundamental pathological element in the reduction of the intracellular calcium pool responsible for the neuromuscular hyperexcitability. Moreover, the therapeutic use of the hormone in this condition is to be encouraged.
The investigators have examined the literature dealing with the psychic symptomatology that generally accompanies tetanic and spasmophilic phenomena, particularly the psychic and characterological substratum of patients affected by such symptoms. By focusing their inquiry on the spasmophilic symptoms displayed by neurotic patients, rather than on the psychic disturbances of patients with spasmophilic symptoms, the following considerations emerge: The widely held view that psychic disturbances in spasmophilic patients can be fitted into the classic picture of asthenic, anxious or depressive disorders is not tenable. The erethistic syndrome with its characteristics of generalized irritability and hyperexcitability, described by us in 1966, is the one most frequently exhibiting spasmophilic symptoms. Therefore, nervous erethism encompasses the most important characteristics of erethistic neurosis as well as of spasmophilia. A connection between the psychological and biological aspects of neurotic conditions is again foreseeable, especially in the light of recent discoveries on normocalcemic spasmophilia. In conclusion, it is intriguing to speculate that the neuropsychic disturbances of spasmophilia fit into the larger conception of nervous erethism and that the psychic and somatic phenomena of both have the same biological origin.
One hundred severe peranesthetic accidents occurring in hospitals in the eastern part of France were tested between 1975 and 1980 at the Immunological Unit of the University Hospital in Nancy. Tests were carried out "a posteriori"; mean time: three weeks after the accident (extremes: one week to one year). A second battery of tests was carried out in 35%, and a third one in 8% of the patients. Anaphylaxis was differentiated from anaphylactoid reactions be means of the tests. Responsible drugs were determined by intradermal testing, by the human basophil degranulation test and P.K. tests. Predisposing factors were studied: atopy (IgE dosage), increase of histamine release (intradermal testing with 48/80), abnormal receptivity to histamine (intradermal histamine), spasmophilia (electromyography recordings). The results show that 42 accidents were due to true anaphylaxis (one of them due to IgG); 48% of the reported accidents were due to succinylcholine. Some of the predisposing factors, in the tested population, are found in a higher proportion than in the French population as a whole; atopy, hypersensitivity to histamine, previous drug allergy, spasmophilia.
