Folin administered showed a significant antagonistic effect to caffeine induced hyperactivity and slightly prolonged hexobarbital induced sleeping time in mice. An antitussive effect was evident only with high doses and anticonvulsant effects were not observed. A mixture of Folin with HgCl2, NaAsO2, 3CdSO4-8H2O or tetrodotoxin resulted in an apparent decrease in mortality rates. However Folin had no effect in the case of alternate administration with a poison or preadministration of Folin. As other pharmacological properties of Folin, a protective effect on induced stress ulcer in rats and an increase in acid output in pylorus-ligated rats in which aspirin was administered. Folin had no inhibitory effect on reserpine ulcer and acetic acid induced anal ulcer in the rat. Neither an increase in gastric motility nor cathartic effect was observed with Folin. In addition, Folin showed a tendency of inhibition on heat induced edema and increase of urinary vikyne and electrolytes in rats.

Fully developed leaves of Cryptochloa capillata (Swallen) Soderstrom, Raddia brasilienses Bertol and Pharus lappulaceus Aublet (Poaceae: Bambusoideae) were collected at Restinga de Jacarepiá, Environment Proctection Area of Massambaba, county of Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and studied by optical microscope. Leaf anatomy is described in order to contribute to the Poaceae family study. Anatomic features observed in the three studied species such as: midrib with complex vascular system, mesophyll consisting of tabular lobed chlorophyllous elements and fusoid cells, vascular bundles with double sheath, epidermis made up of long cells, short cells, micro-hairs, prickles and silica bodies correspond to the "bambusoid type" of leaf anatomy.
Dietary data were ascertained for 229 T. stejnegeri (snout vent length >300mm) from 36 localities throughout the main island of Taiwan and the outlying Orchid (Lanyu) and Green (Ludau) Islands. Twenty nine percent of the snakes were devoid of any prey, and of the snakes containing prey, 43% of the cases were unidentifiable. This relatively large proportion of unidentifiable prey items (observed in the hindgut) may reflect either rapid digestion of amphibian prey and/or rapid venting of feces as an evolutionary adaptation to arboreal life. Trimeresurus stejnegeri appears euryphagous, taking primarily amphibians, but additionally reptilian, mammalian and insect prey. There was no discrepancy in prey composition based on comparisons of where the prey item was recorded in the digestive tract. No sexual variation in diet composition was evident, although males were more likely to contain prey than females, indicating the utilisation of different foraging strategies on similar sympatric prey items. Variation in diet composition was observed between mainland Taiwan and offshore islands, which is most likely the result of differences in prey availability.

Folin showed no significant toxic effects in mice. The tail pressure test in mice revealed a potent analgesic effect with a hypothermic effect in rats. A significant decrease was also seen in rat dextran or carrageenin edema. There were no inhibitory effects on the formation of granulation tissue in rats. In addition, Folin administration revealed a tendency to a decrease in pylorus-ligated ulcer of the rat by inhibiting the gastric secretion. Some protective effects from aspirin or caffeine-induced gastric ulcers of the pylorus-ligated rats were also obtained in this fraction.
