[The prevention and treatment of cicatricial esophageal stenosis after the correction of atresia].

On the basis of the experience with treatment of esophageal atresia in 86 patients, it was established that cicatricial stenosis of the esophagus after radical correction of a defect occurs as a consequence of anastomotic suture failure, violation of the technique of placing an anastomosis, gastro-esophageal reflux. The recommendations on prevention and treatment of cicatricial esophageal stenosis are given.

[Low esophageal stenosis and pyloric obstruction: 2 complications of a Prioton clip].

The authors report a case of digestive hemorrhage due to rupture of oesophageal varices, for which treatment by means of a Prioton oesophageal clip was effective but followed by two rare complications: pyloric stenosis by migration of the balloon of the gastrostomy catheter and retention of the clip which required its removal by oesophagotomy. Analysis of the mechanism of these complications rarely encountered in the literature suggests a method of prevention.

[Treatment of peptic esophageal stenosis in childhood].

Among a total of 82 children treated conservatively and surgically for hiatal hernia and gastro-esophageal malposition (Lortat-Jacob) 14 cases (17%) of peptic stenosis of the esophagus was observed. In an evaluation of the etiology of peptic esophageal stenosis the importance of anatomical growth and morphological changes of the cardia during infancy is stressed. Analysis of patient data revealed an unusually short period of stenotic manifestation after the first symptoms of reflux had been noted. Fundoplication with or without bouginage on an endless string seems to constitute the most beneficial form of therapy.

[Endoscopic treatment of cicatricial and neoplastic esophageal stenosis].

Eder Puestow's dilatation technique in association with fiberendoscopy was used in ten patients with oesophageal scar stricture and in fifteen patients with oesophageal neoplastic stricture. In ten of the latter patients an endoesophageal prosthesis was endoscopically inserted by Nottingham's method. In describing the methods and results obtained the authors stress the absolute reliability and advantages offered by such techniques.
