Coefficients alpha for 231 women and 112 men at a counseling center ranged across subscales of the Brief Symptom Inventory from .70 to .88. Values are comparable to those in the manual. Symptom patterns are similar to those of the psychiatric patients described in the manual.
The development of a 33-item Sexual Desire Conflict Scale for Women is described. The scale was designed to measure women's experiences of subjective discomfort and conflict in relation to sexual desire. 54 women participated: 18 survivors of childhood sexual abuse, 18 survivors of nonsexual trauma, 18 controls with no histories of trauma. Three factors accounted for 25.6, 12.9 and 7.6% of the variance. While no social desirability confounding was detected, the three groups had very different scores. Suggestions for research and clinical application are made.
Reliabilities of the Attitudes Toward AIDS Scale-High School Version were estimated for a sample of 170 adolescents. Cronbach alpha of .79 and a stability coefficient of .84 were obtained.
An Arabic version of the revised edition of the Beck Depression Inventory in its complete form was developed. Back translation indicated the translation into modern standard Arabic was adequate. The cross-language equivalence of scores on the Arabic and English forms was .96, denoting high equivalence in meaning. Coefficients alpha were computed for samples of male and female undergraduates recruited from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Lebanon (ns = 100, 80, 100, 100, respectively). Values of alpha were .77, .82, .89, and .67, respectively. By and large, the inventory seems viable in the Arabic context so its use in cross-cultural research may be explored.
A sample of 1,021 young people attending Years 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 at Catholic secondary schools within the state-maintained sector completed the Dutch translation of the Francis Scale of Attitude toward Christianity. The data support its reliability and validity and commend it for further use in studies conducted among young people in The Netherlands.
The factor pattern of Yamauchi and Templer's Money Attitude Scale was replicated with a sample of 72 undergraduates.

OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to test whether a Turkish version of the Neck Pain and Disability Scale retains its reliability and validity of the original English version. METHODS: Sixty-one patients with chronic neck pain were enrolled in the study. The Neck Pain and Disability Scale (NPDS), the Pain Disability Index (PDI) and The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) were filled by all subjects. Reliability was determined by internal consistency. Internal consistency was measured by calculating Cronbach's alpha and item-total correlation. Validity was examined by correlating the NPDS scores to the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), PDI and HADS scores. RESULTS: Cronbach's alpha value for NPDS was found to be 0.86 and this was statistically significant (p<0.0001). The item-total correlations of NPDS varied between 0.08 and 0.69. The cross-sectional construct validity coefficients were 0.51 for PDI, 0.45 for VAS, 0.35 and 0.33 for Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scales. CONCLUSION: Despite its major limitations, our results seem to support previous findings of the English and French versions of the Neck Pain and Disability Scale, indicating that this functional scale is valid and reliable.
