CATARACT SECTION ACROSS TEMPORARY STAINLESS-STEEL SUTURES.

The purpose of the technique described was to combine the advantages of a cleanedged Graefe-knife incision with those of safety and near-perfect apposition offered by preplaced sutures: a preliminary to cataract extraction. Uncuttable preplaced 2-mm. stainless steel sutures were finally replaced after completion of the incision by attached braided silk for closure purposes.

[Relaparotomy after operations on the rectum and colon].

During 15 years 1663 intraabdominal operations on the rectum and colon were performed, relaparotomy resulting from the complications was fulfilled in 134 patients (8%). The main indication for relaparotomy was peritonitis (57 patients). Its sources were: incompetence of the colonic anastomosis suture, technical errors during the first operation, opening of the abscess into the abdominal cavity. Five types of the course of postoperative peritonitis were established: primary, atypical, artificial, perforative and necrotic types.

[Basic trends in the development of coronary surgery].

The author began using successfully mammary-coronary anastomosis in the clinic in 1964. He used both--suture technic of the creation of anastomosis and the vasosuturing apparatus. The author believes that the use of Favaloro and Effler autovenous aortocoronary shunting delayed the clinical use of mammary-coronary anastomosis without any reasonable scientific grounds. He also considers that an inexact historic information on the use of mammary-coronary anastomosis is presented in the literature, and physiological peculiarities of this operation are underestimated so far.

Continuous suturing for microvascular anastomosis. Technical note.

A continuous suture technique for the microsurgical end-to-side anastomosis of extracranial to intracranial arteries is described. This method combines the speed and even tension of a continuous suture line with improved visualization of the arteries to be anastomosed.

The everting suture: A new technical aid for ureteral nipple construction.

PURPOSE: A new technique using an everting suture to construct a ureteral nipple is described. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The method was used to create 28 ureteral nipples. A 2-zero silk suture is passed through the ureteral wall, transfixing the lumen, and is tied 5 cm. away from the ureteral wall. The ends are cut 10 cm. long. The suture is grasped within the ureteral lumen and with traction the ureter is everted in 1 step without trauma. RESULTS: The suture in smooth 1-step atraumatic eversion of the ureter in all cases. CONCLUSIONS: With this technique a well formed nipple of the desired length can be constructed.

[Trans-sutural anastomosis. A technical procedure which facilitates the low colorectal anastomosis].

How colorectal anastomosis using a circular suture forceps introduced transanally can be considerably facilitated by the "trans-sutural" anastomosis technique, this avoiding the sometimes difficult operative phase of the distal bursa and allowing reduction of septic phase and performance of anastomosis of surfaces of identical caliber. Crossing of clipping lines, of linear and circular shape, resulting from use of this method lacks any inconveniences. Results are reported in 66 patients treated in this way, confirming the reliability of this type of anastomosis.
