[Micro- and ultrastructure of the thymus gland in offspring of alcoholized rats].

Structure of the thymus has been studied in offspring of rats subjected to a prolonged forced alcoholization. A decrease in the part of mitotic figures, blasts, small lymphocytes, increasing amount of destroying cells and active phagocyte macrophages have been revealed at counting the cells at light optic level. Certain changes of morphofunctional state of the reticuloepithelial cells, containing vacuoles and large intracellular cavities, lined with microvilli have been detected. Presence of granule-containing endocrine-like cells and plasmocytes, increasing permeability of capillaries have been noticed. Absolute and relative mass of the thymus in the experimental offspring is lower in comparison with that of the normal ones. The changes revealed in morphogenetic processes of the thymus of the newborn rats are evidently related with alterations in the neuro-endocrine status in the functional system mother-fetus.

[Epithelial canaliculi of the thymus gland--thymosin-dependent structures].

The morphology peculiarities of thymus epithelial canals of 120 Wistar-line rats with thymosin have been observed. Thymosin-5 introduction during 3 days after birth in the dosage of 50 g proved to eliminate the epithelial canals of rat thymus in 3, 7 days of the postnatal period. In this period the epithelial canals have been found in thymus of all intact and control physiological solution injected rats. In 14, 30 days after birth the epithelial canals in experimental rats are found more often than in control ones. Thus, for the first time the evidence of thymosin-dependent characteristics of thymus epithelial canals has been obtained. The possible influence of epithelial canals on the regulation of T-forerunners entrance thymus has been discussed.

[Features of the surgical anatomy of the thymus gland in myasthenia patients].

The surgical anatomy of the thymus was studied intraoperatively in 220 myasthenia patients without tumors during extended thymectomy. An atypical disposition of the whole thymus (Ist variant) or its upper pole only (IInd and IIIrd variants) behind the left brachio -cephalic vein was noted in 8% of cases; mediastinal localization of the thymus (IVth variant) in 13,6% of observations; cervical localization (Vth variant) in 6,9%. Only the right lobe of the thymus ( VIth variant) or only the left lobe (VIIth variant) were found in 4,5% of observations. The technique of extended thymectomy with most frequent variants of the surgical anatomy of the thymus in patients with myasthenia is described.

[Leukemia, lymphogranulomatosis and histiocytosis of Langerhans in children with a history of enlarged thymus gland].

The group consisted of 1056 children with enlarged thymus and a monitored catamnesis in 317 of 0.5-23 years. In 5 examinations in different periods after the diagnosis of enlarged thymus, haematological malignancies were diagnosed: acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (2 children), lymphogranulomatosis (1 child), chronic myeloid leukaemia (monocytic variant) and histiocytosis of Langerhans (1 child). The comparison of these data with other publications on the prevalence of these diseases in the population and the rate of mortality in Moscow place the children with enlarged thymus to high-risk group for haematological malignancies.
