A three-visit, complete-denture technique utilizing visible light-cured resin for tray and base plate construction.

This article describes a technique of constructing a set of maxillary and mandibular complete dentures in three visits instead of the usual five clinical appointments. This system of complete-denture construction is made possible because of the combined use of visible light-cured material as an impression tray and record base material, as well as the use of new biometric wax occlusion rims. Unlike some earlier techniques that use light-cured resin composites as the denture base materials, this method retains the use of heat-cured polymethylmethacrylate as the denture base material.

Prosthetic rehabilitation of individuals with ectodermal dysplasia.

Ectodermal dysplasia is a genetic disorder commonly affecting the development of teeth. The quality of life of the affected individuals can be improved by a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment plan. The treatment may include removable, fixed, implant-supported prostheses, or a combination of these options. This case report describes in detail the diagnosis and treatment of two such individuals using removable overdentures.

Implant-supported overdenture prostheses.

Worldwide acceptance of dental implants has led to refinement of clinical concepts that allow increased prosthetic longevity and availability to larger segments of the general public. Overdenture prostheses are an integral part of this current trend, and the principles of their application should be understood by all clinicians.

Osseointegrated implants with an intramobile element in the treatment of edentulous jaws.

Edentulous patients have demonstrated impaired masticatory ability with conventional dentures. The masticatory deficiency is due, in part, to the instability of the mandibular denture and the lack of proprioception of conventional dentures. The Interpore IMZ implant offers an intramobile element in the design that may enhance proprioception of screw-retained dentures. The following case reports evaluated the stability and patient response of 10 edentulous patients who received a screw-retained denture with the intramobile element. The results indicated that the IMZ system can be successfully incorporated in this design.

[Use of magnets for improving the fixation of removable plate dentures].

An experience is summarized in using the removable dentures with fixation improved by magnets secured on their bases so that their flat surfaces were in contact with the analogous surfaces in the pin insertions located on the residual teeth roots. The technique was applied to manufacture the 21 dentures in 14 patients. The advantages of the technique are presented with the indications to its use.

[Anatomical and functional results after preprosthetic surgery and prosthetic treatment].

Within three years, 85 patients underwent surgery prior to prosthetic treatment. In 53 of these patients, the properties of the denture-bearing region and the result of the prosthetic treatment were studied. In all cases the denture-bearing base offered favorable conditions for the prosthetic treatment. 45% of the dentures, however, showed avoidable shortcomings which were detrimental to the newly created base and thus jeopardized the overall success.
