[The application of the expert system in prosthedontics].

In this study, we developed an expert system for designing of frame work of Removable Partial Denture by the method of Artificial Intelligence. Both of Quick Basic and Tuber C language are used in this program. This system consider more other relative factors in removable partial denture designing except the amount and position of missing teeth. Base the idea of multy-layer knowledge we divide the process RPD designing into different layers according to their logical relationships. So, this system could imitate better the expert of prosthedontics to do the clinical examination, diagnosis, treatment plan and denture designing. There are 11 modules in this system totally. They are used to accomplish the case register, first visit examination, treatment plan, abutment examination, denture designing, biomechanic analysis of abutment, reference, explanation and etc. We used this system for 20 partial edentulous patients and compared the results with the designing plans of expert of prosthedontics, the rate of conformity is 83.6%.

[The study of a computer aided artificial teeth arrangement of complete denture].

OBJECTIVE: To develop a system of computer aided complete denture design (CACDD). METHODS: After 3 dimensional measurement, data process and making model of a edentulous model, artificial teeth and the maxillomandibular bite plate, on the position of centric relation, the artificial teeth were arranged according to the principle and demand of the complete denture's teeth arrangement. The relation of teeth and occlusion were adjusted by Affine and Projection transformation. RESULTS: (1) The maxillomandibular visual base on the position of centric relation were made, its mathematics model is B-Spline curve surface of the double third power. (2) The artificial teeth arrangement and 3 dimensional show of the complete denture were achieved. CONCLUSION: This system can provide a feasible tool for a computer aided complete denture design and teaching.

Centric Relation↗

Mandibular guidance prostheses following resection procedures: three case reports.

Unilateral loss of mandibular continuity creates problems in prosthetic reconstruction. For dentate patients, palatal guide ramps or mandibular guide flange prostheses are indicated. Edentulous patients are much more difficult to retrain in mandibular movements, but complete dentures designed with stabilising occlusal contacts can be successful in compensating for the deviation. Three case reports are presented.

Centric Relation↗

Flange design in removable partial dentures.

Flange design is an important component in the success of removable partial dentures. There are a number of factors such as undercuts, state of residual ridge, aesthetics, etc. that would influence the design. All these factors are interrelated and must be considered together. Only then will the denture serve its function for aesthetics without compromising the health of the remaining supporting tissues. The importance of each factor and its relationship to others are discussed.

Biometric design of complete dentures related to residual ridge resorption.

The aim of this study was to determine whether the location of the incisive papilla, the extent of the alveolar bone remaining on the facial side of the palatal-gingival margin in the canine region, and the height of the palatal vault in the molar region are associated with factors that may affect the volume of the residual ridges in an edentulous maxillae. Results suggest that duration of the edentulousness and skeletal mineral status are important factors in the resorption of the residual ridges in the maxillae. The location of the incisive papilla and the thickness of the ridge on the facial side of the palatal-gingival margin are associated with these two factors.
