EMC(electromagnetic compatibility): how to manage the challenge.

The significant changes in health care and telecommunications has produced an emergence of new and exciting technologies. Clinical engineers must continue to safeguard patient safety by adequately refurbishing their arsenal of technical knowledge of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). This document examines the methodology and the tools for managing the technical changes in the telecommunications and biomedical equipment areas.

Laptops, wireless phones slash nursing time, improve patient satisfaction with care.

Part of a massive redesign, Regional Memorial Hospital in Hollywood, FL, found significant time saved and patient care substantially improved by reengineering how and where nurses place orders for medications, retrieve lab results, and make contact with physicians and other caregivers.

Networking via wireless bridge produces greater speed and flexibility, lowers cost.

Wireless computer networking. Computer connectivity is essential in today's high-tech health care industry. But telephone lines aren't fast enough, and high-speed connections like T-1 lines are costly. Read about an Ohio community hospital that installed a wireless network "bridge" to connect buildings that are miles apart, creating a reliable high-speed link that costs one-tenth of a T-1 line.
