[Method of correction of microstomia and deviation of the mouth angles by rotation of trapeziform and triangular flaps of the mouth mucosa].

In the paper, the author suggests an essentially new method of dilation of the oral orifice and elimination of mouth angles deviations basing on the principle of new redistribution of local tissues by means of rotation of a trapeziform graft of the mucosa with its submucous layer from the buccal and adoral region. In this method one uses more adequate tissues, which reserves in case of microstomia are located in the buccal and adoral region. The successful utilization in 60 patients of the suggested method of elimination of microstomia arising due to different causes enabled the author to recommend it widely for reparative surgery.

[Clinical picture of dentition, periodontium and mouth mucosa in pharmaceutical industry workers].

The studies involved 94 workers of one of pharmaceutical plants producing sulphonamides, aspirin, and psychotropic drugs. The subjects exhibited higher rate of stomatopathies, as compared to controls. The greatest exposure to hazards occurred at the Division of Sulphonamides where numerous cases of leukoplakia and oral mucosa inflammation, probably of allergic origin, were noted. The need for a better dental care for workers, especially within adaptation to environmental conditions was pointed out.

[Lichenoid eruptions of the mouth mucosa induced by lithium carbonate. 2 cases].

INTRODUCTION: Several drugs can induce lichenoid lesions. CASE REPORT: We observed two cases of lichenoid lesions of the buccal mucosa due to lithium carbonate. Drug withdrawal caused clearing. DISCUSSION: These cases emphasize the rare nature of this complication. To date only one lichenoid stomatitis has been reported in the literature.

[Allergic reactions of the mouth mucosa in patients wearing dental prostheses].

Due to the increase in the frequency of allergic disorders it is necessary also to consider allergic reactions in the case of unspecific lesions in the oral region. Intolerance of drugs, resins, and metals can be demonstrated by elimination and exposure tests, but also by epicutaneous tests. Diagnostic measures and therapy vary with the type of allergy in each case.

[Exogenously induced diseases of the mouth mucosa].

Exogenously induced diseases of the oral mucous membrane and the lips caused by chemical, actinic, or mechanical irritations, by drugs, by infections, as well as by dental materials are usually characterized by definite morphology. We report on these diseases, their assignment to various groups of releasing agents, and their course. In particular, we present current developments of dental materials and their relationship to alterations in the oral mucous membrane.

[Changes in the mouth mucosa during pregnancy and hormonal contraceptive treatment].

The oral mucous membrane, especially the gingiva, may undergo changes during pregnancy which, from clinical and histological observations, should be termed pregnancy gingival hyperplasia. Such rare cases of hyperplasia mimic pregnancy gingival tumours (granuloma gravidarum) within the buccal cavity. The gingival changes observed occasionally in women taking oral contraceptives may also be due to hormonal causes.

[Clinical, cytological and immunological characteristics of the effect of ENKAD on the mouth mucosa in Sjögren's syndrome].

A study of the clinical efficacy and the immunomodulating and antiinflammatory effect of ENCAD was conducted in 20 patients with Sjogren's disease (SD) of various degrees of activity of oral mucosa involvement and in a group of 23 healthy controls, with a saline solution as placebo. ENCAD was shown to lessen the expression of the clinical symptoms of xerostomia in both groups of a low and a moderate and high degrees of local activity of an inflammatory process. A tendency to the normalization of regeneration and desquamation in the oral mucosa epithelium was observed against a background of the reduction of an inflammatory reaction. ENCAD produced an immuno modulating effect lowering the blood level of theophylline-resistant and raising the level of theophylline-sensitive T-lymphocytes.

[Differential diagnosis of malignant ulcer of the mouth mucosa--the Sutton aphthae (periadenitis mucosa necrotica recurrens)].

Sutton's ulcer is one of the recurrent oral ulcers. It normally occurs on the nonkeratinized oral mucosa and heals by scar formation. The cause is assumed to be an immunologic response to oral epithelium or the antigen of a microorganism. Therapy is unspecific or topical use of antibiotics and cortisone is recommended. The exclusion of a local or systemic malignant disease seems to be the most important feature of a differential diagnosis.

[Ultrastructure of the mouth mucosa in various types of oral leukoplakia].

12 cases of laukoplakia of the oral cavity was studied by electron microscopy. A correlation between the clinical type, histological- and ultrastructure of the leukoplakia was revealed. In types of leukoplakia simplex and verrucosa, where histologically cornification was found, by electron microscopy signs of keratinization (tonifibrils, granules of keratohyalin) were to be observed. In leukoplakias clinically showing erosions, histologically dysplasia, ultrastructural changes were alike those, seen in some carcinomas.

[Drug-induced Quincke's edema of the mouth mucosa - an analysis of 33 cases].

Since literature only provides us with scarce information about occurrence and etiologic conditions of oro-pharyngeal Quincke's edema, we performed a retrospective evaluation of the medical records of 4,766 in-patients between the years 1970 and 1980 with registered drug-induced cutaneous and/or mucosal side effects. Among these cases there were 187 patients (= 3.92%) showing oral side effects, 33 of them with the diagnosis of Quincke's edema on the labial, oral or pharyngeal mucosa. 30 cases revealed clinical and/or historic data about concomitant occurrence of edematous lesions also in other body sites. With all patients drug intolerance was suspected by history, yet drug testings could only prove this assumption in 24 cases. Salicylates, analgetic compounds, barbiturate, pyrazolone, and penicillin are the main etiologic factors for oral Quincke's edema.

[Benign chronic bullous dermatosis in childhood with involvement of the mouth mucosa].

We report on a rare case of benign chronic bullous dermatosis of childhood (BCBDC) in a 5-year-old girl. In addition to the characteristic symptoms such as abrupt onset of the disease, tense blisters, predominant affection of the face, and later imitation of impetigo, we observed uncommonly extensive involvement of the oral mucosa. Whereas histopathology was not diagnostic, direct immunofluorescence could verify BCBDC as it showed linear deposits of IgA along the basement membrane zone. This case gives rise to the discussion of the clinical entity and nomenclature of BCBDC in relation to similar bullous diseases of childhood and adults.

[The effect of the transsection of the inferior alveolar nerve on neurogenic inflammation of the mouth mucosa. II. Immunohistochemical studies].

The distribution of nerve fibers displaying calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) immunoreactivity in the mandibular mucosa was studied in control rats, in rats after unilateral transection of the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN), and in animals following cervical sympathetic denervation. According to the results, the transection of the peripheral branch of the IAN has no effect on the distribution of the CGRP immunoreactive nerves.

[Prevalence of mouth mucosa changes in 7- to 12-year old students].

The present study had the purpose to evaluate the clinical diagnosis of the oral lesions observed on children. The author examined 1396 children and observed 1670 different alterations. The result were analysed and it is discussed the most prevalent lesions. It is also emphasized the role of the Dentists in performing a more detailed examination in order to reach a better diagnosis and indicate the corresponding preventive nd therapeutic measures.
