A case of administrative conflict: observations on the dynamic framework.

A situation is described of suddenly erupting conflict in an interdisciplinary meeting of psychiatric hospital staff. The conflict is related to the systemic impact of recent changes in psychiatric hospital practice. The observed affect and interpersonal dynamics are reviewed in the context of different conceptual frameworks. These include Maslow's hierarchy of needs model, the group focal conflict paradigm and the concept of scapegoating. The use and integration of these three approaches toward understanding affectively laden administrative conflict are discussed. Specific reference is made to the utilization of such understanding in developing leadership skills in a multi-disciplinary mental health setting.

On the place of siblings in psychoanalysis.

In summary, this paper is a beginning attempt to close a gap that has existed in the psychoanalytic literature. Scant attention has been paid to the significance of sibling relationships, which have largely been relegated to an ancillary position as the cause of rivalry and envy. It is the contention of this paper that sibling relationships are of far greater significance to ego development, to structural and defensive considerations, and to self and object representations. Further, efforts have been made to delineate some of the ways in which sibling relationships can foster or abet the emergence of pathology in patients. Through the presentation of case studies, it has been shown that siblings are significant objects of internalization and that sibling contacts deserve attention in the analysis of personality development, psychodynamics and in the psychoanalytic treatment process.

[Psychological and gynecological characteristics of rejection of the maternal role and its significance for sterility].

In connection with 204 cases the authors endeavoured to reveal the psychogenous causes of functional sterility by examining the personality structure of their patients. The patients visited the clinic because of their primary or secondary sterility. In 44 cases the husband or partner were also examined from psychological point of view, or were treated with psychotherapy. The psychogenous causes of functional sterility were found to be multifactorial and divided into 18 groups. Among these factors, which caused sterility directly or indirectly, there were some, which could be eliminated by psychotherapy, and there were some, which had already caused an irreversible change in the personality,--Beside the success of therapy the effectiveness of the gynecologist-psychologist team-work is remarkable.
