Melanocytes in vestibular dark cell areas in human fetuses.

Melanocytes in human vestibular dark cell areas were observed to have round or spindle-shaped cell bodies with several processes. They were located below the basement membrane but the melanocyte processes were found in the dark cell epithelial layer closely adjacent to the dark cell processes or bodies without any separation from the basement membrane. Submicroscopic observations revealed melanin pigment in various stages of accumulation on the tyrosinase filaments in melanosomes. Three-dimensional stereoscopic observations clearly revealed the morphological characteristics of tyrosinase filaments, their helicoidal structure and some variations. Mature melanin granules developed from premelanosomes as the melanin pigments were gradually deposited onto the filaments. Through this progress of pigment accumulation, the melanosomes became darker. In the four mid-term fetuses used in the present investigation, few differences were seen in the mode of melanin deposition on the tyrosinase filaments. In view of the close spatial arrangement and contact of the melanocytes with the dark cells, it seems plausible that the melanocytes play some role in vestibular metabolism via the dark cells.

[Sexual and interhemispheric differences in the involvement of serotonin from the hippocampus and amygdaloid body in the processing of new and repeatedly presented information in rats].

Effects of novel or relevant (a single exposure to experimental chamber) and irrelevant (20 exposures to experimental chamber) stimuli on the levels of serotonin (5-HT) and its metabolite 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) in the left and right hippocamp and amygdala were studied in male and female rats. It was found that hemispheric specificity of 5-HT metabolism in hippocampus and amygdala depended on sex and novelty of information. In male rats, the hippocampal level of 5-HT in response to the novel stimulus increased in the left hemisphere, and the 5-HIAA hippocampal level increased bilaterally in response to irrelevant stimulus. In females, an increase in 5-HT and/or 5-HIAA levels was observed only in the left hippocampus in response both to relevant and irrelevant stimuli. In the amygdala, a hemispheric asymmetry of the 5-HT involvement, due to right-hemispheric changes in 5-HT metabolism, was observed only in male rats. In females, an increase in 5-HT level was found in the left and right amygdalas in response to irrelevant stimulus. These data suggest that serotonergic neurotransmitter mechanisms are an important factor which determines hemispheric and sex differences in selective attention.

[Inverse problem identification of parameters in heat transfer processes of human body].

In order that the distortion of the relative skin temperatures which is accompanied with the physiological destruction of an organ in the abdominal cavity and its physical-physiological mechanism may be investigated, we adopt in this paper the mathematical model for heat transfer problems in human layered tissues and a perfect parametric identification approach-inverse problem method. By utilizing the extremum method and integrating with the experimental data of an artificial thermo-focus, this difficult biophysical problem is solved.

[Subjective body experience and therapy of somatoform disorders].

The article addresses the problem of subjective body experience in patients with somatoform mental disorders. Perspectives of multi-axial model of subjective body experience and methodical approaches to its descriptions are discussed. Different variants of body experience organization are described. Clinical peculiarities of somatoform mental disorders were closely connected with the complicated structure of body experience. Main processes involving body experience are those of self-identification structuring: determination of the borders of subjectivity, relations with objects, representation of self-ego. An analysis of structure of subjective body experience enabled to work out differentiated psychotherapeutic approaches to complex rehabilitation of patients with somatoform mental disorders.
