Case report: mixed-field agglutination in a patient with a weak D antigen presenting as a possible fetal-maternal hemorrhage.

A gravida 1, para O, 17-year-old black female was found on prenatal testing to be group O, Du+, the latter test showing many unagglutinated cells. Because of the mixed-field appearance, the patient was thought initially to have bad a fetal-maternal hemorrhage. Additional red cell typings were performed, but no other apparent mixed-field reactions were observed. The Kleihauer- Betke test and hemoglobin electrophoresis indicated that the mixed-field agglutination was not due to a fetal-maternal hemorrhage. Thus, the finding of a mixed-field D typing could he explained best by a weak D antigen.

First report of a field outbreak of the oriental eye-fluke, Philophthalmus gralli (Mathis & Leger 1910), in commercially reared ostriches (Struthio camelus) in Zimbabwe.

A total of 17 commercially reared ostriches (Struthio camelus) from Msengi farm, Chinhoyi, Zimbabwe, observed with swollen eyes, severe conjunctivitis and constant lacrimation accompanied by a purulent exudate, were restrained for further clinical examination. Some of the birds were semi-blind with severe loss of body condition. When examined, tiny organisms were observed attached to the nictitating membranes and the conjuctival sacs of both eyes. The organisms were identified as Philophthalmus gralli, the "oriental eye-fluke" and Melanoides tuberculata, a prosobranch snail, was confirmed as the intermediate host through natural and experimental infection. To the best of our knowledge this is the first record of the oriental eye-fluke infection in birds in Zimbabwe and Africa and extends its known geographical range.

[Results of treatment with DoloVisano for non-specific pain syndrome related to body movement. Concluding report on a field study of 3326 patients by 314 orthopedists].

The effectiveness of ColoVisano with view to the nonspecific pain syndrom of the locomotor system, particularly of the back, was proven on 3,326 ambulant patients. Three weeks after starting of treatment the majority of the patients was found free of pain. Considering the duration of the disease, the result of treatment with DoloVisano is remarkable: 66% = very good--good, 17% = moderate, only 12% = without success. Only in 15% of the cases side effects were found, which never led to an interrupture of the treatment. When listing the side effects, gastric pain with 6% and trousiness with 50% are ranging among the first places. The field study, performed by 314 orthopedic doctors in practice shows the high effectiveness of DoloVisano not only in patients with non-specific pain syndrom resulting from the spine but also with rheumatic syndrom, especially fibrositis and degenerative diseases.
