Anorexia Nervosa in twins: case report and review.

The cases of a pair of monozygotic female twins simultaneously concordant for anorexia nervosa area reported. About half of the previously reported cases of anorexia nervosa in twins are concordant; however, interpretation of the clinical data reviewed is difficult because diagnostic criteria are not always clear. Clinical parallels between anorexia nervosa and folie à deux are discussed.

The child's accusation of sexual abuse during a divorce and custody struggle.

A single case report is presented in which the children, after a marital separation of their parents, accused the father and paternal grandparents of sexually assaulting them during the time the parents and children were still living together. The case illustrates the dilemmas that their allegations created for the therapist who was responsible for the children's evaluation during the custody suit. The therapist's efforts to resolve these dilemmas are described, and the case is discussed in terms of the literature on folie á deux.

[Conforming delusions].

A number of schizophrenic patients with the delusion homogeneous in its contents (conformant delusion) were examined. The results of the examination have shown that the delusion of this type can develop not only simultaneously, by the inter-induction mechanism, but also by way of transfer, suggestion of the delusional idea, i.e. by the type of suggestive psychoses. The leading role in the mechanism of the conformant delusion formation belongs to endogenous factors, and namely, to the regularities of the basic disease development that determine the peculiarities of the time course and outcome of the conformant delusion. A slowly progressing course of the disease without gross negative changes, a tendency to formation of "worshipped" delusional ideas, and formation of acquired reactive lability are the peculiarities of a schizophrenic process which are the "grounds" for conformant delusion formation.

A psychoanalyst looks at a hypnotist: a study of folie à deux.

This paper traces my personal development from anesthetist to hypnotist, psychotherapist, and, finally, psychoanalyst. The change was precipitated by the successful treatment of a patient with congenital organic skin disease by hypnotism. Alongside my change of profession, I attempt to illustrate my change of ideas and the change of my relationship to patients which accompanies these other changes. I feel that my personal experience throws some light on the nature of suggestion and hypnotism and how they differ from each other and from psychoanalysis. I believe that observations support the idea that hypnotism is a folie à deux caused by mutual projective identification between two people and that in a less dramatic form this condition commonly occurs in normal development as well as in pathological psychological states. Several cases illustrate these ideas.

[Folie à deux. Review of the literature and an unusual case].

We present a review of the concept's history and discuss different possible varieties of "folie à deux". Following this we report the case of a couple whose "folie à deux" has lasted for ten years. They have four of their own children and three further children from the husband's first marriage. Of special interest is the personality of the protagonists, their psychological assessment, and the so far ineffective therapeutic interventions that have been undertaken in efforts to save the children.
