Serum immunoreactive parathyroid hormone (S-iPTH) was measured together with serum and urinary calcium and phosphorus in 45 hyperthyroid patients in order to assess parathyroid fe of hyperthyroidism. The prevalence of hypercalcaemia was 51.1% using serum calcium values corrected for individual variations in serum albumin concentration compared to 15.6% using the uncorrected calcium values. S-iPTH was decreased and inversely correlated to serum calcium values. S-iPTH was decreased and inversely correlated to serum calcium (corrected). Subnormal levels of S-iPTH were found in 28.9% of the patients. The urinary excretion of calcium and phosphorus was increased and positively correlated to the degree of hyperthyroidism. The tubular reabsorption of calcium (TRCa%) was decreased, positively correlated to S-iPTH and inversely correlated to serum calcium. Increased mobilisation of bone mineral in hyperthyroidism is suggested mainly to be responsible for the elevated serarathyroid function.

Systematic study undertaken of 44 transplant patients with plasma creatinine below 0.11 mmol/L indicated renal phosphorus leak in approximately two-thirds of them and increased plasma PTH in all but one. Plasma 1,25(OH)2D was elevated in half the patients in whom it was measured. The lack of correlation found between plasma 1,25(OH)2D and plasma PTH or phosphorus probably indicates tubular lesions resulting in decreased production of 1,25(OH)2D. A phosphorus restriction test in 12 hypophosphatemic patients demonstrated that the reduced renal phosphorus reabsorption probably was due to both persisting hyperparathyroidism and a PTH-independent phosphorus leak.

The sympatholyitic ornide and beta-adrenoblocking agent alpheprol were introduced intraperitoneally in single doses of 5 and 1 mg/kg, respectively to 7--30 day and 3--5-month old adult rats. The content of ATP, ADP, AMP, inorganic phosphorus glycogen and also active P32 incorporation were determined. The 7-day old rattlings are shown to be more sensitive to ornide than to alpheprol by comparison with older animals.
Experiments on 78 adult rats were made to study the effects of acetylsalicylic acid and sodium salicylate administered daily for 7 and 14 days on the content of pyruvic, lactic, citric acids and inorganic phosphate in the wall of blood vessels of different function. Salicylates were demonstrated to reduce the content of citric acid by the 7th day and that of pyruvic acid by the 14th day, to increase the level of lactate and inorganic phosphorus during both observation periods. The degree of the changes revealed is unequal in different vessels, being more pronounced after sodium salicylate administration.
