[Clinical efficacy and T-lymphocyte subset, serum interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), interleukin-2(IL-2) levels on treatment of chronic aplastic anemia patients by shenfu injection combined with stanozol and cyclosporin A].

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of Shenfu injection (SFI) and influence on T-lymphocyte subset, serum level of interferon-gamma(IFN-gamma), tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-alpha), interleukin-2(IL-2) in patients with chronic aplastic anemia (CAA) based on treating with stanozol and cyclosporin A. METHOD: 60 patients with CAA were randomly divided into two groups, 30 patients in the SFI group were treated with SFI (100 mL which contains Ginsenoside 0.8 mg x mL(-1) and aconitine 1.8 microg x mL(-1) by adding it in 500 mL of 5% glucose every day) plus stanozol and cyclosporin A and 30 patients in the control group treated with slanozol and cyclosporin A alone for 2 months. The clinical efficacy was observed. The change of T-lymphocyte subset analyzed by flow cytometry and the levels of serum IFN-gamma, TNF-alpha, IL-2 measured with ELISA method were also observed before and after treatment. RESULT: After treatment, the total effective rate of the SFI group was higher than that in the control group, but it did not showing significant difference. The CD4/CD8 levels were significantly increased (1.76+/-0.49, P< 0.01) and CD8 levels were significantly lowered (22.57+/-6.30, P < 0.01) in the SFI group after treatment. Serum levels of lFN-gamma, TNF-alpha and IL-2 were lower in both groups, and the level of TNF-alpha and IL-2 in the SFI group (0.710+/-0.213) ng x L(-1) and (0.639+/-0.247) ng x L(-1) was significantly lowered than that in the control group (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: SFI might believe the hemopoietic inhibition so as to promote the recovery of hemopoietic function through improving the T-lymphocyte subset and reducing the release of hemopoietic negative regulatory factors such as IFN-gamma, TNF-alpha and IL-2.

[Study on systematic bioloay and syndrome of traditional Chinese medicine].

The ideas and methodology of science since the later half of 15th century were reviewed in this article. It was indicated that reduction theory is the science studying existence, mainly the components and nature of things, and emergency theory is the science studying production, mainly involved in the production of new things, the scientific attitude in research work is to combine these two theories (the reductionism and holism). The adthor also pointed out that the combination of systematic biology with molecular biology, and the application of mathematical modeling are the new trend in research of life science. Research of "syndrome", a professional TCM term, is just consistent with this located at scientific frontier and highly comprehensive systematic biological theory. The integration of findings at molecular level obtained during the last several decades by reduction theory will push the research of "Syndrome" into the scientific frontier again.

[Exploration on the basic framework of standard for macrocosmic diagnosis of syndrome].

Starting from the thinking characteristics of TCM in the holistic approach of syndrome and process of syndrome differentiation, the problems in the criteria of syndrome diagnosis was analyzed, combining with the outcome of investigation on macrocosmic diagnosis of syndrome carried on twice by expert group nationwide in China, a concept for designing basic framework of standard for macrocosmic diagnosis of syndrome was advocated in this study. In order to recognize and master fully the standard, the following items would be the contents of the framework: give a standardized term of each syndrome; the basic clinical features of a syndrome; the qualitative parameters which could be used to distinguish the nature of a syndrome, and indexes to be used to judge the affected location of a syndrome during identifying process for a syndrome; the order of pertinent indexes with their given score, and the threshold for quantitative diagnosis. It is considered that the above framework defined the sufficient criteria which is constructed on the bases of the approaches with integrated qualitative and quantitative methods. It may enable the syndrome differentiation to access the real world of a patient to be used appropriately this framework.

A clinical study on the treatment of urinary infection with Zishen Tongli Jiaonang.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the therapeutic effects of Zishen Tongli Jiaonang (capsules for nourishing the kidney and promoting urination) for treatment of urinary infection. METHOD: The treatment group with a control group were randomly set up. 120 patients in the control group were given antibiotics according to drug sensitive tests for orally taking or intravenous drip, while 136 patients in the treatment group were additionally given the capsules on the basis of the above-mentioned treatment. One course of treatment lasted 2 weeks. Statistical analysis on the therapeutic effects was conducted after a two-course treatment. The recurrence rates of the two groups were compared one year later. RESULTS: The total remission rates were respectively 96.3% in the treatment group and 81.7% in the control group (P<0.05). The recurrence rates one year later were respectively 4.4% in the treatment group and 30.0% in the control group (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: The capsules show good effects for urinary infection, especially in the long-term effect.

[Effect of ming-men mixture on corticosterone-rats' neuro-endocrino-immunological network].

The hypothalamus-pituitary adrenal-thymus(HPAT) axis is an important form of the neuroendocrino-immunological network (NEIN). To study the essential link between Ming-Men, Kidney and the NEIN, the corticosterone (CORT) injected rats was used. The CORT The CORT caused HPAT axis inhibiting model was established and then the regulation of Ming-Men mixture (MMM) was observed. The results showed that the number of corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) positive neurones in hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus, CRF positive neurofibril in in median eminence, anterior pituitary ACTH positive secretory cells decreased markedly in the CORT inhibited rats and the immunohistochemical ABC staining became lighter than the control. We also observed that there was atrophy in adrenal, especially fasculate zone became thinner compared with the control. The thymus atrophied, the number of lymphocytes and thymic corpuscles decreased obviously. The content of ACTH and CORT in plasma decreased, the proliferative reaction of lymphocytes, interleukin-2 and the inductive ability of gamma-IFN reduced. After the MMM was instilled into stomach in experimental group, it was foiund that MMM could improve the inhibition on HPAT axis caused by CORT significantly, P < 0.01. It suggested that MMM possibly was an effective and ideal prescription which could regulate the HPAT axis.

[Influence of stimulating zusanli with moxibustion of different quality and quantity on gastrointestinal motor function of reserpinized rats].

This article is focused on the observation of changes in body temperature, body weight, cholinesterase activity in blood, and gastrointestinal motility of reserpinized rats treated by stimulating Zusanli (ST 36) with moxibustion of different quality. (mugwort floss or pipe tobacco) and quantity (strong stimulation or weak stimulation). The experiment shows that better results are achieved with moxibustion not by burning tobacco; the result of strong stimulation with moxa-sticks is better than that of weak stimulation with the same material. Strong stimulation with moxa-sticks can obviously increase the activity of cholinesterase (P < 0.05), inhibit hyperactive gastrointestinal motility (P < 0.05), maintain normal body temperature (P < 0.05), and prevent body weight lossing. All these show that therapeutic results of moxibustion are closely related to the quality and quantity of moxibustion.
