The investigation of epiphora.

The investigation and management of a patient with a tearing problem demands evaluation of the lacrimal passages by syringing and intubation macrodacryocystography with subtraction prints. Data regarding function can be provided by a nuclear lacrimal scan and computer assisted scintillography. We describe our experience with 163 patients.

Dacryocystorhinostomy↗

Primary surgical repair of traumatic lacerations of the lacrimal canaliculi.

Injuries of the lacrimal system are occasionally associated with maxillofacial trauma. Detailed knowledge of the anatomy of the lacrimal apparatus is essential for optimal treatment of these injuries. The pertinent anatomy is reviewed. Techniques for the diagnoses and repair of lacrimal injuries specific to the canaliculi are presented and discussed with emphasis on early detection and intervention.

Anastomosis, Surgical↗

The surgical management of congenital lacrimal fistulae.

Congenital lacrimal fistulae are developmental anomalies of the lacrimal apparatus that are usually symptomatic, frequently causing epiphora and occasionally causing fistulitis or dacryocystitis. They may be associated with other abnormalities of the lacrimal system or with systemic anomalies. Complete excision alone, or in combination with nasolacrimal intubation and/or dacryocystorhinostomy is recommended for treatment.
