[A rare cause of dysphonia: laryngeal rhabdomyoma].

The authors report a case of laryngeal rhabdomyoma occurring in a young female adult, revealed by a dysphonia. The review of literature shows that both immunohistochemical and electron microscopy studies have rarely been performed for this benign but infrequent tumour in this localization.

Adult↗

[Cardiac fibroma in an infant: comparison of echocardiographic findings with cardiac rhabdomyoma].

A 2-month-old boy presented with a cardiac tumor diagnosed by echocardiography and magnetic resonance imaging. An open biopsy specimen was diagnosed histologically as cardiac fibroma. The echocardiographic appearance of fibroma was compared with that of rhabdomyoma complicated by tuberous sclerosis. Fibroma is characterized by a partly high echo density area in the tumor suggesting calcification. Echocardiography is useful in the diagnosis of cardiac fibroma.

Calcinosis↗

Adult rhabdomyoma of the larynx.

Rhabdomyomas of the larynx are rare lesions, with the "adult" type occurring more frequently than the "fetal" type. Treatment is complete surgical removal. Recurrences would suggest an incomplete surgical procedure and/or an incorrect pathological diagnosis.

Basal Cell Carcinoma↗

[Rhabdomyoma of the heart].

Rhabdomyoma is the most typical tumor of the heart found almost exclusively in children. The author describes a case which at autopsy disclosed typical nodes in the myocardium.

Autopsy↗

Myocardial rhabdomyoma with rhabdomyoblastic moiety.

The clinical, histologic, histochemical, immunohistochemical, and ultrastructure studies of a primary neoplasia of the myocardium with onset in a 14-year-old boy led to the conclusion that this was a benign neoplasia of myocardial origin, apparently not previously described. The authors propose to call this entity "myocardial rhabdomyoma with rhabdomyoblastic moiety".

Adolescent↗

[Rhabdomyoma of the adult type. Apropos of a case of parapharyngeal site].

The authors report the case of an adult parapharyngeal rhabdomyoma in a-66-years old man, revealed by dysphagia. Optical and electronical microscopic aspects and immunohistochemistry are presented and compared with those of the literature. The pathogenesis of this benign striated muscle tumor is still unclear. A recent study tends to confirm that it is a really benign neoplasm.

Aged↗

Benign rhabdomyoma of the submandibular region.

A case of benign rhabdomyoma is presented, and the pathology is discussed with reference to its differential diagnosis. The literature is reviewed and the common features of the tumor are described.

Head and Neck Neoplasms↗

[Tardive pseudo-ischemic presentation of cardiac rhabdomyoma].

Rhabdomyoma (RBD) is the commonest cardiac tumour in early childhood. This tumour, which is asymptomatic in most patients, is often associated with tuberous sclerosis, a multisystem disease that involves mainly the central nervous system. RBD, which is generally considered a hamartoma rather than true tumour, often regresses spontaneously by age of 2. We present the case of a 19 year-old male affected with an RBD diagnosed through transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography and nuclear magnetic resonance imaging, and characterized by late cardiac manifestations, including intermittent left bundle branch block and a pseudo-ischemic electrocardiographic pattern. These findings may depend on the anterobasal septal localization of the RBD.

Adult↗

Intrauterine rhabdomyoma of the heart. A case report.

Primary cardiac tumors are rare findings in adults and children. A case is presented in which ultrasound examination revealed an incredibly large tumor in the heart of a fetus at 24 weeks. Tumor filled the whole left ventricle. Histology and immunohistochemistry were indicative of rhabdomyoma, i.e., a hamartoma that is often associated with tuberous sclerosis.

Actins↗

[Benign polypoid vaginal rhabdomyoma].

A case of benign polypoid rhabdomyoma of the vagina in a 57 years old multipara is reported. The diagnosis confirmed by light and electron microscopy, allowed to estimate the tumour as a benign analogen of sarcoma botryoides.

Rhabdomyoma of the heart: ultrastructural study of three cases.

The electron microscopic features of three primary cardiac rhabdomyomas were studied for the first time. Distinct striated muscle cells arranged in a disorderly fashion are described. The cases demonstrated a spectrum of possible myobibril differentiation with one case having only Z-bands and myosin filaments present while the other two had well formed thick and thin filaments with all of the bands present including Z, I, A, H, and M. Glycogen bodies, numerous mitochondria with tubular cristae, lipid deposits, and peculiar striated structures resembling zebra bodies were also seen. Desmonsomal attachments suggestive of Purkinje-type fibers were seen in all of the cases and were the only types seen in cases 2 and 3. In addition, intercalated discs characteristic of myocardial fibers were noted in case 1. This finding still leaves the exact histogenesis of the lesion uncertain although origin from two types of fibers is possible.

[Recurrent fetal cellular rhabdomyoma:histopathological and ultrastructural observations]

A mass of the neck in an 8-year-old boy diagnosed with recurrent fetal cellular rhabdomyoma was reported. The recurrent tumor consisted of undifferentiated round and short spindle cells and immature striated muscle cells, which was similar to the primary tumor occured in five years ago. However, there were more large round myoblasts which mainly located at the periphery of the tumor and osteoid stroma in the recurrent case immuno-histochemistry stain and ultrstructure observation suggested that these were undifferntiated mesenchymal cell and myoblasts. The differential diagnosis from fibrosarcoma, highly differentiated rhabdomyosarcoma, and hemangiopericytoma were dicussed.Author considered FRMs has a recurrent and malignant change tendency though it belongs to benign tumor.
