[Phospholipids in the liver and brain of animals in acute oxythiamine-induced avitaminosis B1].

Under conditions of acute avitaminosis BI caused by hydroxythiamine administration, the amount of phosphatidyl ethanolamine was increased in animal liver tissue with simultaneous elevation of stearic and arachidonic fatty acids in the phospholipid. Incorporation of 2-14C-acetate into phosphatidyl choline and phosphatidyl ethanolamine as well as into their fatty acid residues was increased and incorporation of 2-14C-pyruvate--into phosphatidyl ethanolamine and its glycerol fragment was also increased. The content of these phospholipid fractions as well as incorporation of 2-14C-acetate and 2-14C-pyruvate into their structure were unaltered in rat brain tissue.

[Components of the prothrombin molecule during development of avitaminosis K].

Components of the blood plasma prothrombin molecule were studied in the course of alimentary K avitaminosis development in pigeons and rats. A gradual decrease in the content of hexosamines in the prothrombin molecule was observed when vitamin K was excluded from the animals' diet. This decrease may be associated with inhibition of glucosamine biosynthesis.

[Lipid peroxidation and degeneration of the retinal photoreceptors in rats with avitaminosis E].

Alimentary E-avitaminosis in rats was accompanied (in vivo) by a sharply intensified formation of the lipid peroxidation products (hydroperoxides, dialkylperosides, "intermolecular links") in the retina and by degeneration of photoreceptors (chiefly of the external rod segment layer). Discussion of the experimental data obtained is based upon the views on the antioxidant alpha-tocopherol action mechanism in vivo.
