XYY males. Some clinical and psychiatric aspects deriving from a survey of 1,811 males in hospitals for the mentally handicapped.

A survey of 1,811 mentally handicapped males in eighteen hospitals is described. Males discovered with supernumerary Y chromosomes numbered 15, of whom 12 were 47,XYY. Some of the physical, social, psychological and psychiatric findings are described and compared with groups matched for IQ and height. The main psychiatric findings are diminished intelligence, retardation in development of secondary sexual characteristics, and poor emotional control leading to inadequate social adaptive patters which are described and discussed.

Studies of androgen production and binding in 13 male pseudohermaphrodites and 13 males with micropenis.

We studied androgen production by morphologic and biochemical criteria plus androgen binding by skin fibroblasts in 13 male pseudohermaphrodites and 13 males with micropenis, none of whom had evidence of androgen insensitivity. Seventeen of the 26 patients had evidence of deficient androgen production, suggesting this as the cause of their incomplete virilization in utero. Fibroblasts from all 26 patients demonstrated normal androgen binding and affinity of the steroid for the receptor. Although these results exclude a deficiency of androgen binding in these individuals, other end organ defects are possible. Guidelines for diagnosis and management of such patients are presented.

Self-concept and psychological adjustment differences between self-identified male transsexuals and male homosexuals.

Self-concept and adjustment data from anatomical males seeking sexual reassignment surgery were compared with that from a male homosexual group. Findings indicated that the homosexual group had a better self-image and was better adjusted than the sex change group. Other findings are presented that reinforce the view that the norm violations in homosexuality and transsexualism do not necessarily imply serious character damage.

In vivo effect of human chorionic gonadotropin on the migration of inflammatory cells in intact or castrated male and female guinea-pigs. A quantitative histological study. I. Study of intact male and female guinea-pigs.

The migration of inflammatory cells and fibroblasts into dacron mesh tissue (Mersilene), immersed in a suspension of live BCG and implanted s.c. into intact male and female guinea-pigs treated with either commercial or purified human chorionic gonadotropin was investigated. Cell counts showed that in treated animals a significant reduction (about 70%) of whole cells occurred. The effect was maximal on neutrophil granulocytes (a reduction of 85%) by Day 5 after grafting. No significant differences appeared between males and females or between commercial and purified human chorionic gonadotropin.

The effect of purified human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) on the migration of inflammatory cells into dacron mesh tissue containing live BCG and implanted under the skin of castrated male and female guinea-pigs was investigated. Cell counts have shown that no significant difference appeared between controls and castrated guinea-pigs given HCG. This work suggests that the inhibiting effect of HCG on the mobility of neutrophil granulocytes is closely related to the presence of both male and female gonads.

[Autoradiography after tritiated thymidine labeling of the abortive gametogenesis in hybrid male ducks from the cross male Pekin X female Barbary].

This autoradiographic data concludes that meiotic prophase of the abortive gametogenesis of the sterile hybride drake (from the mating Peking male = Anas platyrhynchos L. X Barbary female = Cairina moschata L.) lasts 5 days 1/4. 6 days after the injection of the marker the seminiferous tubules contain numerous labeles necrosing cells but never typical elongated spermatids.
