Draft genome sequences of non-endemic Mycobacterium tuberculosis Indo-Oceanic and West African lineages recovered in Panama.

We report the draft genome sequences of three Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates recovered from Panamanian residents belonging to the Indo-Oceanic (Lineage 1) and West African (Lineage 5) lineages. These isolates exhibit various drug-resistance profiles, including rifampicin-resistant and multidrug-resistant phenotypes. This highlights the changing molecular epidemiology of tuberculosis in Central America.

Draft genome sequences of three Bacillus spp. from the University of the Philippines Culture Collection.

This study reports the assembled and annotated draft genomes of three Bacillus spp. isolates from the University of the Philippines Culture Collection. Genome analysis predicted genes for stress tolerance, plant-growth promotion, and secondary metabolite production, highlighting their potential for diverse biotechnological applications in agriculture and natural product synthesis.

Draft genome sequences of 188 Salmonella isolates from no-antibiotics-ever and conventionally raised poultry samples from retail stores.

We describe the draft genomes of 188 Salmonella isolates from no-antibiotics-ever and conventionally raised chicken and turkey products. Top three isolated serotypes were S. Infantis, S. Kentucky, and S. Typhimurium. The genome sizes, contig numbers, and GC contents of 188 isolates range from 4.68 to 5.15 Mb, 31 to 168, and 51.6% to 52.2%, respectively.

No antibiotic ever

Draft genome sequence of the almond red leaf blotch pathogen Polystigma amygdalinum assembled from infected almond leaves collected in California, USA.

We report a draft genome assembly of Polystigma amygdalinum, the causal agent of almond red leaf blotch. DNA extracted from infected leaves was sequenced using PacBio HiFi, and host-derived reads were removed bioinformatically. The 238.7-Mb assembly (90.8% BUSCO completeness) is highly repetitive (82.3%) and unusually large for an ascomycete.

Thirty-six draft genome sequences of Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli isolates in no-antibiotics-ever and conventionally raised broiler samples from retail stores.

We describe the draft genomic sequences of 36 isolates of Campylobacter spp. from no-antibiotics-ever and conventionally raised broiler products, comprising 27 Campylobacter jejuni isolates and 9 Campylobacter coli isolates. The genomic features described in this report may facilitate our ability to develop strategies to control and eliminate Campylobacter during poultry production and processing.

Draft genome sequence of Archaeoglobaceae strain SR50 isolated from a shallow hydrothermal vent in the caldera of Saint-Paul Island, French Southern and Antarctic Lands.

We report the draft genome sequence of SR50, the first cultivated member of the genus JdFR-22 within the Archaeoglobaceae family, which currently includes three genera with cultivated representatives. Isolated from a shallow hydrothermal vent off Saint-Paul Island, a strictly protected area, SR50 is able to grow lithoautotrophically by sulfate reduction.

Draft genome sequence of Vibrio parahaemolyticus GISV1-1 associated with AHPND in Bangladesh.

Vibrio parahaemolyticus GISV1-1 was isolated from diseased shrimp with acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease in Bangladesh. Its draft genome is 5,078,728 bp with 45% GC content. The genome exhibits several virulence-associated genes and the beta-lactam resistance gene blaCARB-33. It will enhance our understanding of pathogenesis and disease management in shrimp aquaculture.

A high-quality draft genome assembly of Johnsongrass illuminates relationships between polyploidization, crop-wild hybridization, and reproductive biology.

Johnsongrass [Sorghum halepense (L.) Pers.] is an allopolyploid, rhizomatous, perennial grass species and one of the most troublesome weeds in global agriculture. We assembled the first Johnsongrass genome to clarify poorly understood genetic factors influencing variable rates of crop-wild hybridization with cultivated sorghum [S. bicolor (L.) Moench]. The draft genome assembly has a total size of 3.26 Gb and BUSCO completeness of 95.3%. We also report the first evolutionary analysis of INHIBITION OF ALIEN POLLEN (IAP), the only known cross-(in)compatibility locus in the genus. Our results reveal an evolutionary history of genome instability, including the loss of distinct parental subgenomes, and suggest that Nebraska accession 'J-37,' the genome donor, is a segmental allotetraploid that may function as a diploid or aneuploid during meiosis. Genome instability could explain observations of variable ploidies in Johnsongrass and facilitate ongoing hybridization with sorghum where gamete ploidies and IAP alleles match. Given this information, we provide a suggested research framework for studying evolution and gene expression in the Sorghum genus where crop-wild hybridization occurs and for predicting the potential for hybridization between specific crossing partners. Collectively, this work will bolster efforts to study and manage reproductive biology in other crop-wild polyploid complexes.

Draft genome sequence of Brevibacillus borstelensis strain BB2 isolated from a hot spring in the Cochamó Valley, Chile.

Brevibacillus borstelensis strain BB2 was isolated from a soil sample collected in the Cochamó Valley, Chile. The draft genome comprises 187 contigs totaling 5.25 Mb with a guanine-cytosine (GC) content of 51.7%. Sequencing on an MGI DNBSeq-G400 platform generated 3,406,660 paired-end reads, providing approximately 170× coverage for genomic resource reporting.

Draft genome sequence of the agarolytic bacterium Cellvibrio sp. 25HG11W-0.

Cellvibrio sp. strain 25HG11W-0 is a freshwater agarolytic bacterium isolated from the Namyangcheon stream in the Republic of Korea. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of this bacterium, which harbors multiple putative agarase genes belonging to glycoside hydrolase (GH) families GH16, GH50, GH86, and GH117.

Draft genome sequence of a novel hydrogenogenic CO-oxidizing bacterium that is phylogenetically closely related to the family Thermicanaceae.

An anaerobic, thermophilic hydrogenogenic carbon monoxide (CO)-oxidizing Bacillota bacterium, 3446A, was isolated from freshwater pond sediments in Kyoto, Japan. The 3.11-Mbp draft genome sequence (guanine-cytosine content, 50.4%) encodes CODH-ECH genes, consistent with hydrogenogenic CO oxidation. Phylogenomic analysis suggests that Bacillota bacterium 3446A represents a novel genus-level lineage within the family Thermicanaceae.
