[The effect of M-cholinolytics on the lability of rabbit visual analyzer structures].

The influence of M-cholinolytics (amizyl, glipine, cyclozyl and 4-oxypiperidylbenzylate) in 0.01--10 mg/kg doses on EEG and photic driving in structures of the visual analyser was studied in experiments on twenty intact rabbits with chronically implanted electrodes in the optic chiasm, the optic tract, the lateral geniculate body and the visual cortex. All M-cholinolitics in the doses studied produced synchronization of the EEG. Photic stimulation against the background of small doses of M-cholinolytics (0.01--0.5 mg/kg) did not lead to any disturbances of photic driving. With increased doses of cholinolitics up to 1--5 mg/kg only low frequencies (1--5 imp/sec) produced driving in the lateral geniculate body and the visual cortex, while in the optic tract the driving remained at the initial level. Administration of drugs in a 10 mg/kg dose resulted in complete depression of the driving response in the lateral geniculate body and visual cortex, while in the optic tract the driving was retained.

[The effect of neutotropic substances on motor excitation in dogs induced by amizil].

The motor activity of dogs was quantitatively recorded before and after the intramuscular injection of amizyl (2 mg/kg). Amizyl was found to induce hyperactivity for 2-3 hours. Galanthamine (3 mg/kg) blocked the effect of amizyl. Etaperazine was the most active substance of the neuroleptic tranquillizers tested. Chlorpromazine and diazepam deranged the dogs' state. Diazepam and haloperidol potentiated the effect of amizyl. Motor hyperactivity induced by amizyl is supposed to be connected with anticholinergic mechanisms; no neuroleptics with cholinolytic properties should be used for the treatment of amizyl intoxication.

[Study of the mechanism of postcoital contraception in the combination of streoids and the central m-cholinolytic, amizil].

Experiments on female rats showed the blocking of the M-cholinoreactive system with amizyl to significantly contribute to the estrogen/norsteroid contraceptive effect during the postcoital periods. This effect was accompanied by decrease in the gonadotropin level and by the change in the LH/FSH ratio, this creating an unfavourable background for implantation of the fertilized ovicell in the endometrium. There was a change in the transport rate in the tube and a delay in the decidual reaction. Changes in the rate of the ovicell transport were not accompanied by distrubances in the process of fertilization or with the cytotoxic action. Mestranol and ethynylestradiol in combination with norethynodrel (1:20) and with the central cholinolytic amizyl were agents with future prospects for short-term postcoital contraception.

[Participation of brain cholinergic mechanisms in the action of neuroleptics].

Tests conducted with mice demonstrated the neuroleptics droperidol, galoperidol and aethaperazine capable of subduing in mice greatly the agressive reaction provoked by an electric stimulation of pain and to distinctly raise at the same time the sensitivity of the M-cholinoreactive systems of the brain to the tremor-inducing effect of arecoline. Amizyl (benactyzil) and cyclodol, by abolishing this M-cholinopositive action of the neuroleptics, greatly reduce, at the same time, their antiagressive activity, Il may be presumed that in the antiagressive activity of neuroleptics the activation of the M-cholinergic plays a definite part in cerebral mechanisms produced by them.

[The effect of several neurotropic preparations on the differential character of pancreatic enzyme secretion].

Chronic experiments were conducted on dogs with pancreatic fistulae; secretion of the pancreas (basal and stimulated by duodenal perfusion by acid solutions, albumin and its polypeptide hydrolysate) was investigated with consideration to its enzyme (amylase, trypsin, chymotrypsin) secretion. The polypeptide hydrolysate proved to stimulate the pancreatic enzymes more than pure protein. Barbamyl, chlorpromazine and amyzyl inhibited both the basal and the stimulated secretion of the pancreas. The differential character of the pancreatic enzyme secretion was most disturbed by chlorpromazine and amizyl; this served as an evidence of the substantial role of the central adrenergic and cholinergic structures in the adaptation of the pancreatic secretion to food stimuli.

[Visual recognition processes in monkeys and their neuronal correlates in the visual cortex: the effect of an M-cholinoreceptor blocker].

Unit activity was studied in the visual cortex prior to and after amyzyl administration in monkeys trained for delayed visual differentiation of different colour stimuli. The data obtained suggests that the cholinergic mechanisms of the visual cortex are involved in the visual recognition and seem to play different functional roles at different stages of the behaviour.
