1. Surgically or chemically induced premature menopause is a life transition characterized by a situational crisis superimposed on a developmental crisis. 2. After surgically or chemically induced premature menopause, women's self-concept shifts and evolves through an interactive or relational process. 3. Nurses can use crisis management to increase women's understanding of the physiological and psychological dimensions of premature menopause, facilitate their links with community support systems, and strengthen their existing social networks. 4. Pollen of ten species of Panax and six species of Aralia was examined in light microscopy and scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Grains of both genera have similar complex apertures, short columellae, and overlapping tectal sculptures, suggesting a close relationship. Most species of Panax have pollen characterized by striato-reticulate tecta, short columellae, thick foot layers, costa ectocolpi, and lalongate endoapertures. The eastern North American P. trifolius, commonly known as the dwarf ginseng, has a distinctive pollen morphology and exine structure, supporting the hypothesis of its phylogenetically isolated position. Pollen of the eastern Asian P. ginseng (ginseng) can be distinguished from the eastern North American P. quinquefolius (American ginseng) by differences in ultrastructure. The monophyly of the three medicinally important species, P. ginseng, P. notoginseng, and P. quinquefolius, suggested by triterpenoid data, is not supported by pollen data. The results of the pollen study are generally congruent with those from the sequences of nuclear ribosomal DNA.
Although the term "sexual rights" has gained widespread currency, its concrete scope and content have not yet been fully defined. The need for definition is critical not only for promoting governmental accountability but also for ensuring that sexual rights can be claimed by diverse persons around the world. Ironically, the concept of "sexual and reproductive rights" poses a challenge to this effort; practices and people not traditionally addressed by reproductive rights work must be explicitly named and protected. This article considers how international norms have contributed to a gendered regulation of sexuality and of contemporary theories of "socially constructed sexuality," and it proposes a focus on the conditions that contribute to the ability to choose and on the links between sexuality, conduct, identity, social structures, and reproduction. Given the probable politically charged responses, global coalition-building is needed.
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: Neck fractures of the talus are rare. Necrosis is the complication most often observed. Mal union or non union are rarely reported: 11 cases of such complications have been treated and are presented with results of surgical treatment. MATERIAL: Seven non unions and 4 mal unions after separation fracture of the talus, presenting with pain and deformity of the hindfoot were treated. The treatment included removal of the fibrous tissue, heel reaxation, bone grafting, peritalar joints arthrodesis. RESULTS: Bone healing was observed in 5 of 7 non unions, and the correction of the hindfoot deformity in 9 of the 11 cases. DISCUSSION: Non union or mal union after separation fracture of the neck of the talus are poorly tolerated, the patients walking with the foot in internal rotation, bearing most of the weight on the lateral border of the foot. Such poor course results from: the less mechanical stiffness of the medial part of the talus, the severity and the comminution of the fracture, insufficienct reduction and fixation, too early weight bearing, and is associated with degenerative changes of peritalar joints. Functional and antomical good results can be obtained with bone healing, hindfoot reaxation and peritalar arthrodesis. We emphasize the interest of X Rays in the examination and the adequacy of a good initial treatment.
Derivation of a formula for determination of proportion of paternal trisomy 21 is presented. The formula can be applied for the literature data on sex ratio in the cases of paternal and maternal origin of the extra chromosome in the populations where direct studies of its origin can not be performed.
