Training non-psychologists in the treatment of sexual dysfunction with special reference to the training of marriage guidance counsellors.

This paper describes a study in which marriage guidance counsellors were trained in the treatment of sexual difficulties. This study is discussed in the wider context of the literature concerned with training issues in the treatment of sexual function problems. The results of the training programme give clear evidence that non-professionals can be trained to produce results similar to those of a professional and it is argued that issues discussed in the literature concerning the training of professionals in the treatment of sexual difficulties are also applicable to non-professionals.

Relationships among semantic differential change measures of splitting, self-fragmentation and object relations in borderline psychopathology.

This pilot study investigated associations among change measures in a sample of borderline patients participating in an intensive, group-oriented day treatment programme. Change scores over a four-month period were calculated from measures of splitting dynamics, self-perceptions, and experiences of interpersonal relationships. Correlations provided partial empirical support for the hypothesized associations among these variables. Findings suggested that as splitting decreased, patients developed a more benevolent, and more anaclitic, view of self-in-the-world.

The therapy is a synthesis of earlier clinical experiences, mostly based on works of Reich, on elements of encounter and of eastern body tradition.

Complementary individual and group analytic training for future psychotherapists.

Whereas individual training analysis offers the candidate the possibility of thoroughly working through unconscious tendencies, desires, and anxieties that come to the foreground, a dyadic setting group analysis permits one to observe and to analyze all the many narcissistic, power, and rivalry problems that are activated in a group setting, and to undergo a social learning process. The author describes the value of training for the (later) activity as individual or especially as group analyst. This training includes participation in an analytic self-experience group (psychodynamic group process), supervision by an experienced group analyst of the work done in an analytic group, and comoderating of an analytic group by two psychotherapists.
