Some personality characteristics of patients with anorexia nervosa.

Twenty-two female patients with anorexia nervosa were assessed by means of objective personality testing. The EPI, Leyton Obsessional Inventory, Cattell's 16 PF and Raven's Matrices were used for this purpose. The personality profile that emerged was of a highly neurotic and introverted person with moderately severe obsessional features and average intelligence.

Autokinetic word technique and personality.

24 male subjects were divided into four groups on the basis of their scores on the Eysenck Personality Inventory and were administered the autokinetic word technique test as elaborated by Rechtschaffen and Mednick (1955), with numbers of words and letters reported constituting the response measures. Stable introverts reported significantly more words and letters than stable extraverts; there was no difference between neurotic introverts and neurotic extraverts. On the basis of the large inter-subject variability, the usefulness of the autokinetic-word situation in the investigation of projection is doubted.

An investigation of the color-affect hypothesis in Exner's comprehensive system.

The color-affect hypothesis states that color responses on the Rorschach provide information regarding an individual's emotional life. The present study explored the several color-affect interpretive hypotheses in Exner's popular Comprehensive System by using a theory-relevant measure of affective modulation inferred from 32 undergraduates' behavior in an emotionally salient dyadic interaction. Subjects designated as high affective modulators (n = 6) and low affective modulators (n = 10) according to Exner's theory were not significantly different on a discrepancy score measure of affective modulation. It is suggested that Rorschach color scores may be insensitive to the more subtle forms of affective modulation present in less emotionally disordered individuals. Further research is suggested and caution is advised for clinicians assessing affective modulation styles in less severely disturbed patients based on traditional color-affect interpretive theory.

The effects of being imitated and awareness on the behavior of introverted and extroverted youth.

Introverted and extroverted preadolescents (N equals 34) were seated at a box with 6 holes in the top surface and presented the following conditions: (a) baseline - the subject dropped marbles 1 at a time in any holes he wished; (b) imitation - the subject and experimenter alternated dropping marbles, with the experimenter imitating the subject if he dropped his marbles at a hole designated a priori for imitation; (c) imitation plus awareness - this was identical to the previous condition except that the subject was told that he was being imitated at the designated hole; and (d) extinction - the experimenter dropped her marbles in a prearranged random order. As predicted, under the imitation-plus-awareness and extinction conditions extroverts responded significantly more at the holes at which they were imitated than did introverts.

[Experimental and psychopathological characteristics of psychophysical infantilism in the structure of the hysterical form of psychopathy].

The authors report of some results of an experimentalpathopsychological study of 100 patients with hysterical forms of psychopathy and the syndrome of psychophysical infantilism. It was demonstrated that there is an irregular intellectual development (according to Wecksler's method) which is described by the authors in the form of a characteristic "intellectual profile" and a high level of claims with inadequate reactions of selection, a high assessment of physical and psychic "I", with a low evaluation of the "situational I". The achieved personality characteristics are closely connected with abnormal behaviour and asocial actions of the patients.
