A search of the literature has been carried out to determined how oral contraceptives affect sexuality in women. Some studies featured a high incidence of loss of libido. This could perhaps be attributed to preparations containing progestational compounds. However, no adequate double-blind trial has confirmed this observation. Some psychological and pharmacological aspects of contraceptions are discussed. More research is needed to ascertain why women often lose their sexual interest when taking oral contraceptives.

Variation in the severity of keratosis follicularis relative to states of homonal change was noted in eight women with the disease. Observations included frequent onset near puberty, puberty, exacerbation during menses, and improvement while patients are pregnant or on oral contraceptive agents. It is proposed that states of relative estrogen excess are associated with quiescence of this skin disorder. In support of this hypothesis, three postpubertal women with Darier desease were observed to undergo significant improvement with the use of estrogen-dominant birth control pills.

Two female patients in their thirties suffered peripheral arterial occlusion, in close association with the ingestion of the oral contraceptive pill. While current investigative technique cannot directly implicate the pill, it is felt that in the two patients presented it was an important aetiological factor, no co-existing arterial pathology being detected.
Estimating bone mineral by the photon absorption (125I) method applied to the distal part of the radius, it was found that young women using oral contraceptives containing a daily dose of 100 micrograms of mestranol had higher concentrations of bone mineral than non-users. Women twenty to fifty-nine years old who had lactated were among the poorly mineralized, while those who had lactated but were now using oral contraceptives in various combinations were among the highly mineralized.
