Recurrent dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans sixteen years after radical excition. A case report.

We report the case of a young patient with an apparently benign slowly growing lesion which was excised 15 years after its occurrence. However, the histopathological examination revealed a DFSP which necessitated two more surgical procedures for inadequate surgical margins and a skin graft. Notwithstanding these radical operations, the patient presented a local recurrence 16 years later, suggesting that the insidious behavior of the tumour must be taken into account and that patients with DFSP need a life-long follow-up.

[Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans--the need for a radical approach].

The authors present the case-history of a young patient with rapid growth of a relapsing skin tumor--dermamtofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP)--in the scar of a previous minor dermal excision. DFSP is a malignant skin tumour, frequently relapsing in the scar after excision, rarely metastasizing into lymph nodes and the lungs. The patient was treated by a major radical excision and a dermal flap plastic operation with subsequent adjuvant actinotherapy. With regard to possible relapses, the authors recommend long-term dispensarization of patients.

[Darier-Ferrand dermatofibrosarcoma. Apropos of a case with frontal involvement].

One case of dermato-fibro-sarcoma protuberans is reported on a 36 years old man. It was an extensive forehead tumor which needed a radically surgical treatment. These excision called a reconstruction with cutaneous graft and scalp flaps. Three years after treatment, there was no evidence of recurrence or lymphadenopathy. The aesthetic results is good. The authors recalled with this observation the important points of this disease particularly characterized by slow invasive growth and local recurrence.
