[CAMDEX-N: the Dutch version of the Cambridge Examination for Mental Disorders of the Elderly with automatic data processing].

In the study of dementia four distinct categories of instruments can be distinguished: instruments to examine cognitive dysfunction, to measure the severity of dementia, to assess disturbances in daily behaviour, and instruments to make a differential diagnosis of dementia. The Cambridge Examination for Mental Disorders of the Elderly (CAMDEX), published in 1988, incorporates these four categories in a single comprehensive interview schedule. Items related to the diagnosis of clouded/delirious state, depression and other psychiatric symptoms are also included. The Dutch version (CAMDEX-N) and accompanying software for data analysis and for scientific research were developed. Items were added to the section on physical and neurological examination, and to the section on ancillary investigations. The software can be adapted to future developments in dementia research.

[Complex automatic data processing in multi-profile hospitals].

The computerization of data processing in multi-disciplinary hospitals is the key factor in raising the quality of medical care provided to the population, intensifying the work of the personnel, improving the curative and diagnostic process and the use of resources. Even a small experience in complex computerization at the Botkin Hospital indicates that due to the use of the automated system the quality of data processing in being improved, a high level of patients' examination is being provided, a speedy training of young specialists is being achieved, conditions are being created for continuing education of physicians through the analysis of their own activity. At big hospitals a complex solution of administrative and curative diagnostic tasks on the basis of general hospital network of display connection and general hospital data bank is the most prospective form of computerization.

[Results and experiences with automatic data processing of caries epidemiological data].

The authors report of further results from and experience with the automated processing of caries-epidemiological data by means of the R 300 computer. The extension of result documentation to qualitative characteristics of caries incidence in the framework of scientific problems is described and critically evaluated, taking a caries-protective collective action for an example.

[Automatic data processing in the studies of the electric activity of the heart].

A generalized analysis of the work going on at the Kaunas Medical Institute in automation of instrumental investigations is reported. The aim, destination and the field of application for the systems of automated analysis of electrocardiograms and rhythmograms, whose construction is based on the use of LIBM-22 and BECM-6 computers, are described. Fundamental prinicples laid at the root of the systems (data file, algorhythms employed, structure of response), mathematical and technical provisions, analysis of basic errors and possibilities of their elimination are presented.
