Wavelet transform applications in analytical chemistry.

The wavelet transform has been established with the Fourier transform as a data-processing method in analytical chemistry. The main fields of application in analytical chemistry are related to denoising, compression, variable reduction, and signal suppression. Analytical applications were selected showing prospects and limitations of the wavelet transform. An important aspect consists in showing the advantage of wavelet transform over Fourier transform with respect to dual localization of a signal in both the original and the transformed domain enabling principal new application fields in comparison with Fourier transform.

Real-time electrochemical monitoring: toward green analytical chemistry.

This Account presents a survey of recent advances in electrochemical sensing technology relevant to green analytical chemistry and examines the potential advantages, limitations, and applications of these monitoring devices. Stricter environmental control and effective process monitoring have created considerable demands for innovative analytical methodologies. New devices and protocols, with negligible waste generation or no hazardous substances, and in situ real-time monitoring capability are particularly needed for addressing the challenges of green analytical chemistry. The coupling of modern electrochemical detection principles with recent advances in molecular recognition, microelectronics, and microfabrication has led to powerful, compact, and "user-friendly" analytical devices. The unique features of such electrochemical monitoring systems make them particularly attractive for addressing environmental and industrial problems and the challenges of green chemistry. These developments allow the instrument to be taken to the sample (rather than the traditional way of bringing the sample to the laboratory) and hence to ensure effective process or pollution control.

Analytical chemistry of nickel.

Analytical chemists are faced with nickel contents in environmental and biological materials ranging from the mg/kg down to the ng/kg level. Sampling and sample treatment have to be performed with great care at lower levels, and this also applies to enrichment and separation procedures. The classical determination methods formerly used have been replaced almost entirely by different forms of atomic absorption spectrometry. Electroanalytical methods are also of increasing importance and at present provide the most sensitive approach. Despite the powerful methods available, achieving reliable results is still a challenge for the analyst requiring proper quality control measures.

[Role of analytical chemistry in the development of new drugs].

In this paper, the role of analytical chemistry in drug research, its development and some basic research related to developing new drugs are concisely discussed, including the establishment of quality control standards, finger prints of natural medicine products, resolution of chiral compounds and drug metabolism studies. The incorrect point of view of some people on pharmaceutical analysis is mentioned and the indispensability of this discipline in drug research and development is also emphasized.

Design and deposition of vacuum-ultraviolet narrow-bandpass filters for analytical chemistry applications.

Vacuum-ultraviolet (VUV) narrow-bandpass filters with central wavelengths at 177.5, 180.7, and 193 nm are necessary for analytical chemistry applications and for atomic emission spectrum separation. The emission spectra are so close that the required passbands of these filters are 1 to 2 nm with a maximum of 2 nm. We first investigated the designs based on the Fabry-Perot model with fluoride materials and second the deposition of narrow-bandpass filter components by using evaporation deposition. VUV spectral characterizations show that the filter components meet the requirements for analytical chemistry applications.
