[Genetic characteristics of erythrocyte antigens and various polymorphic blood proteins in the Jersey cattle in Moldavia].

The results of the study of immunogenetic structure characteristics of both the purebred Jersey and different generations of the Red-stepp x Jersey, Jersey x Golshtin, Jersey x Golshtin x Red-stepp are presented. We used 47 to 61 reagents and studied 8 types of blood proteins. Some differences in allele frequencies of a number of loci were revealed between the groups studied. This fact shows the possibility of their using as markers in breed crossing.

[Secondary prevention of arterial hypertension in rural population of Moldavia].

The results of the third year of nondrug and pharmacological prevention of arterial hypertension according to the steppedcare scheme of WHO are provided. A low rate of response (46%) to annual check-up was noted among rural residents with arterial hypertension detected by screening which hampers the preventive intervention. During the third year of preventive campaign 9.3 percent of people were covered by regular hypertensive treatment, 20.61 percent--by irregular treatment and 24.4 percent with elevated blood pressures detected by screening never received any treatment. Among women the proportion of those receiving hypertensive treatment (both regular and irregular) was larger. An analysis was made of mean levels of systolic and diastolic blood pressure at the beginning and at the end of the third year of observation in groups of patients with different attitude to treatment. At the third year of implementing the programme of secondary prevention the number of hypertonic patients receiving effective treatment increased 8-fold compared with baseline data. Persons with higher levels of arterial blood pressure were more often applying for treatment. The normalization of arterial blood pressure was noted in 39% of persons applying for regular treatment, 31%--for irregular treatment and in 26% of non-treated hypertonic patients.

[Detection of the rotavirus group antigen by a screening test using the ELISA-IC kit in subjects with acute gastroenteritis, at the pediatric services of Moldavia].

The rotaviral antigen was detected by a screening test using the ELISA-IC kit in 17.6% out of 415 children with acute gastroenteritis. The highest frequency (28.9%) was found in children hospitalized in pediatric services with a diagnosis of diarrhoeic disease associated to acute respiratory infection. The rotavirus infection incidence was about three times higher during the cold season than during summer (30.4% versus 10.5%). The 6-11 month age group was the most severely affected.

[Presence of the rotavirus antigen in newborn infants at maternity hospitals in Moldavia].

Studies conducted on 417 feces samples collected from newborn infants from seven maternity homes revealed the presence of rotavirus in 1.2 to 9.5% of the subjects. The infants get infection during the first 24 to 48 hours of life (1.8%) and the positivity rate reaches a peak the 7th day (9.7%). Enteroviruses were found in 3.4% and enterobacteria in 11.8% of the samples.

[Characteristics of the genome of poliovirus type 3 isolated from patients with poliomyelitis in Moldavia].

Twelve poliovirus isolates of serotype 3 from patients with paralytic poliomyelitis have been analyzed by oligonucleotide mapping of the viral genomes. All the studied strains were isolated from patients in different regions of the Moldavian SSR in 1982. The maps of all isolates are similar but they do not practically possess any large oligonucleotides characteristic of the vaccine strain of type 3 poliovirus. It is concluded that a wild neurovirulent strain of type 3 poliovirus, that circulated in 1982 in the Moldavian SSR was the cause of paralytic poliomyelitis cases. All the studied isolates are suggested to have been derived relatively recently from the common ancestor.
