[Clinical and experimental study on effect of jin-qi-jiang-tang-pian on qi-yin deficiency and hyperactivity of diabetes mellitus].

The purpose of this study was to verify the effect of Jin-Qi-Jiang-Tang-Pian (JQJTP) on fasting blood glucose (FBG), postcibal blood glucose (PBG), total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), acetylcholine esterase (AchE), insulin, RBC-superoxide dismutase (RBC-SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA). Efficacy was observed in 40 cases of diabetes mellitus, 20 cases administered with Yu-Quan Pian (YQP) were taken as control. Each group took drugs for two months. After treatment with Jin-Pi-Jiang-Tang-Pian, FBG, PBG, AchE were apparently dropped and RBC-SOD increased, as compared with patients of the YQP group (P < 0.05-0.01), and major symptoms of diabetes were improved. In experimental study, model rats suffering from diabetes induced by alloxan were observed, the rats' blood sugar level above 11.1 mmol/L were chosen for observation. These rats were divided into JQJTP group, YQP group and control group. It was found that JQJTP was able to lower blood sugar, TG and MDA (P < 0.05-0.001) significantly, with a increase of the SOD/MDA, as compared with those of patients of the control groups.

[Pathology of syndrome-differentiation types of superficial deficiencies in patients with gastric cancer].

Analysing the relations between TCM syndrome differentiation type and pathology in 312 patients with gastric cancer, the authors put forward the syndrome differentiation type of deficiency of vitality and excess in superficiality. The studies showed that the four syndrome types of deficiency of vitality such as Spleen-Stomach deficiency, Qi-Xue deficiency, Yin deficiency and inner heat, Spleen-Kidney Yang deficiency and the three syndrome types of excess in superficiality such as Liver-Stomach disorder, blood stasis and stagnation of Qi, Phlegm-dampness and stagnation of toxic. The same changes in pathologic characteristic of both were from early to late stage, the infiltration getting deeper, the tumor getting larger and the metastasis of lymph nodes around the stomach from little to much. Their difference was that in the deficiency of vitality syndrome-type, the chief manifestation was in nest or spread infiltration type which became serious by degrees, whereas in excess in superficiality type, the reaction of lymphoidocytes around the cancer was decreasing. The studies also showed that in most syndrome types of Spleen-Kidney Yang deficiency and Phlegm-dampness and stagnation of toxic, the tumor occurred in wide-range and the degree of tissue differentiation was quite low. The authors suggested that there might be morphopathologic basis in TCM syndrome differentiation types and the conclusion has practical value in guiding clinics.

[Effects of Chinese herbs xianzhen tablet on the deformability of erythrocyte in non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus patients with deficiency of both qi and yin and deficiency of kidney with blood stasis].

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effects of Xianzhen Tablet (XZT) on the hemorheology of type 2 diabetes (NIDDM) on the basis of previous studies in XZT, that have indicated its ability to deplete fasting blood glucose, to reduce the injury of free radical to the body, to improve the Na(+)-K(+)-ATPase in the erythrocyte membrane of NIDDM. METHODS: Erythrocyte deformability and aggregation were studied with Ektacytometer in a total of 60 type 2 diabetes who were randomly divided into two groups. One was ZXT treated group, another was placebo group. RESULTS: (1) The erythrocyte deformability of type 2 diabetes was lower than that in normal subjects (P < 0.001), but the erythrocyte aggregation increased abnormally than that of health people (P < 0.001). The correlation test indicated there were negative correlation with plasma fibronogen and positive correlation with blood cholesterol (P < 0.05). (2) The erythrocyte deformability in the ZXT treated group with 30 patients improved after 8 weeks treatment (P < 0.01), with the decreased fasting blood glucose and plasma fibrinogen (P < 0.05). Compared with placebo group, there was significant statistical difference (P < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: XZT could improve the erythrocyte deformability in the type 2 diabetes.

[Relationship between T cell subsets and traditional Chinese medicine type in patient with ovarian tumor].

In order to study the difference in TCM types as well as between Deficiency and Excess type in immunity in the patients with ovarian tumors, the profile of peripheral blood T lymphocyte subsets in 73 cases of ovarian tumors was determined by using flow cytometry and monoclonal antibody technique. The results showed that the total T cells (OKT3) of peripheral blood were almost normal in 73 tumor cases. And 50 of them were malignant tumors in which T helper cell were progressively decreased and T suppressor cell gradually increased in accordance with the order of Qi-Deficiency, Yin-Deficiency, Qi-Yin Deficiency types. The T4/T8 ratio showed significant difference (P < 0.01) compared with the control group and the initial ovarian tumor group. These results indicated that the change in the T lymphocyte subset in tumor was correlated with TCM type and this serves as both clinically sensitive indexes of different TCM type and reflection of the patient's immunologic status.

[Correlation between traditional Chinese medicine classification of 53 patients with aplastic anemia and varieties of hemopoietic progenitor cells in vitro culture].

Aplastic anemia can be classified distinctively three types as progenitor depletive; immunosuppressive and androgenic sensitive. Using bone marrow culture in vitro which had been accomplished in our laboratory, 53 patients with aplastic anemia were also classified according to TCM term in three groups as Yin deficiency, Yang deficiency and both Yin and Yang deficiency, and the correlation was observed between TCM classification and lab character of these patients. The results showed that the number of CFU-GM, CFU-E and BFU-E in Yang deficiency group was significantly higher than that in the other two groups (P less than 0.01 and P less than 0.05). It also showed that the sensitivity of progenitor cells to androgenic hormones of Yang deficiency group was preferential to all (P less than 0.005 and P less than 0.05). The percentage of immunosuppressive type of aplastic anemia in Yin deficiency group was much higher than those in the other two groups (P less than 0.005). These observations suggested that TCM classification for aplastic anemia in this paper has objective material foundation.

[Influence of different types of syndrome on the rising of excellent response rate in hernia repair with acupuncture anesthesia].

UNLABELLED: In order to raise the rate of excellent response in repair of hernia with acupuncture anesthesia, we valued individual difference in the light of basic theory of traditional Chinese medicine. 70 cases were typed by symptoms and signs before hernia operation with acupuncture anesthesia in which 48 cases were yang-deficiency type and 22 cases yin-deficiency type, besides, 30 cases of peridural anesthesia were as the controls. 1. Acupuncture Group: 1. Low-frequency electro-needling (1/sec) was applied to Zusanli (ST36) and Sanyinjiao (SP 6), while high-frequency electro-needling (10/sec) applied to the incisional edge. 2. The electrowaves and intension of stimulation were changed by regular time to maintain the best needling sensation. 3. Small doses of adjuvants were used together with acupuncture, which shows synergism clearly (fentanyl, 2 micrograms/kg, fentanyl/droperidol, 1/50, the dose depending on the condition of patients in operation). 2. The Controls: Routine peridural anesthesia and adjuvants were used. The same observation was given as the acupuncture group. RESULTS: I. the response rate of yang-deficiency type was 97.9%, the excellent response rate 75%, while the response rate of yin-deficiency type was 90.8% and its excellent response rate 45.4%. The response rate of the groups was no significant difference (P > 0.05), but the excellent response rate of the two differed significantly, the excellent response rate of yang-deficiency type was better than that of yin-deficiency type (P < 0.05). II. The total dose of adjuvants in the acupuncture group was small.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

[A multi-centeric epidemiological survey on TCM syndrome in 1016 patients with IgA nephropathy and analysis of its relevant factors].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the distribution pattern of TCM syndrome in patients with IgA nephropathy and its relationship with the main clinical prognostic indexes to provide a basis for the standardization of integrative medicine in diagnosis and treatment of IgA nephropathy. METHODS: Multi-centeric epidemiological field survey was adopted to collect the materials of 1016 IgA nephropathic patients, including demography, TCM syndrome and laboratory findings, for exploring the distribution pattern of TCM syndrome of IgA nephropathy patients. RESULTS: Probability of over 10% could be found in the TCM syndromes as yin deficiency, qi deficiency, yang deficiency, damp-heat and blood stasis syndrome, the highest (41.5%) was found in qi-yin deficiency syndrome and the lowest (8.1%) in yang deficiency of Pi and Shen. Along with the increasing of age, the percentage of patients with Pi-Fei qi asthenia syndrome descended while those with Pi-Shen yang asthenia ascended. In the accompanying syndromes, damp-heat syndrome and blood stasis syndrome, with the proportion of 32.6% and 28.9% respectively, were the most frequently encountered. The levels of 24 h urinary protein, serum creatinine and urea nitrogen in patients with Pi-Fei qi asthenia syndrome, qi-yin deficiency syndrome and Gan-Shen yin asthenia syndrome were significantly lower than those in patients with Pi-Shen yang asthenia syndrome, respectively (P < 0.05), while the blood pressure in patients with Pi-Fei qi asthenia syndrome, and qi-yin deficiency syndrome were significantly lower than that in patients with Gan-Shen yin asthenia syndrome and Pi-Shen yang asthenia syndrome (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Qi-asthenia and yin deficiency is the principal clinical manifestation of IgA nephropathy. TCM syndrome types are closely related with the prognostic indexes as urine protein, hypertension, renal lesion, etc.

[Primary discussion on the classification of the TCM patterns and measurable diagnosis of 760 cases of protracted abstinent syndrome by heroin-addiction].

OBJECTIVE: To discuss the TCM pattern classification and measurable diagnosis criterion of the protracted symptoms of heroin-addiction abstinence (PSHAA). METHODS: Through literature review and clinical study, the concept of TCM patterns and diagnostic standard were established, and a TCM pattern scale for quantitatively analysis of PSHAA was formulated. The scale were used on the clinical investigation on the abuser for 5 times on day 15, 30, 60, 90 and 120 after abstinence. Then the TCM patterns of PSHAA was classified using methods of DME and quantitative diagnosis, to create a corresponding scale of diagnostic indexes referring maximum likelihood method. RESULTS: (1) The TCM patterns of PSHAA commonly seen were Toxin-stasis accumulation (TSA) with Qi-blood insufficiency, TSA with Qi-yin deficiency, TSA with Yin-deficiency and Fire-excess and TSA with Yin-Yang deficiency. (2) The retrospective and prospective verification of the scale of diagnostic indexes showed it has high sensitivity and speciality, with low rates of misdiagnosis and of missed diagnosis. CONCLUSION: It is feasible to develop measurable diagnosis on the TCM patterns of PASAA using DME method and measurable diagnostic methods. The scale of diagnostic indexes formulated with the maximum likelihood method of quantified diagnosis has a certain clinical practicability.

[Tongue tip microcirculation in patients with different symptoms].

Observations of tongue tip microcirculation were made on 104 patients with different symptom-complex [5 groups: Yin deficiency, Yang deficiency, Qi.blood deficiency, Qi stagnation-blood stasis, damp-heat] in view of TCM, and on 100 healthy persons. 10 indicators including the transverse diameter of the fungiform papillae, morphology of microvascular clumps in the tongue papillae, congestion of the top of microvascular loop, loop dilation, blood color, hemodynamics in microvascular loop, exudation, hemorrhage and loop morphology were observed. The results were: patients of each group were found to have to different degree microcirculation dysfunction; every group differed with Qi stagnation-blood stasis group of being most different. The numbers of abnormal indicators: Qi stagnation-blood stasis group had all 10; Yang deficiency group 9; Yin deficiency and Qi-blood deficiency group 8, 8 respectively; damp-heat group 7. This study discussed the relationship between tongue tip microcirculation of each group and the changes of tongue picture and typing of differentiation of symptoms and signs in view of TCM.

[Correlation of syndrome types in traditional Chinese medicine and insulin release curves in pre-aged and aged diabetics--an analysis of 142 cases].

This paper deals with the correlation between insulin release curves and syndrome types of TCM in 142 cases of diabetes. The syndromes were divided into 3 types: I, Qi-Yin deficiency, 94 cases; II, Yin deficiency with interior heat overabundance, 36 cases; and III, deficiency of both Yin and Yang, 12 cases. The results showed that fasting for 60 min, the postprandial (M +/- SD) of serum insulin were 18.27 +/- 1.10 mu/L and 45.21 +/- 2.82 mu/L in type I 25.47 +/- 1.88 mu/L and 60.53 +/- 0.25 mu/L in Type II; 8.29 +/- 0.93 mu/L and 19.20 +/- 1.67 mu/L in type III respectively. It was obvious that serum insulin level was Type II greater than Type I greater than Type III. But there was no difference between the aged and the pre-aged with diabetes (P greater than 0.05); even though the former was lower than the latter. According to the analysis of insulin release curve types (insulin secretion level and peak time), there were 39 cases (41.5%) of the low secretion type, 7 cases (7.5%) of the high secretion type among the 94 cases of Type I. Of the 36 cases of Type II, there were 7 cases (19.4%) of high secretion, more than that of Type I, and the highest value reached 155-106 mu/L. The 12 cases of Type III are all of the lower secretion type, with the fasting mean value being 47.5 mu/L and 10.93 mu/L and the postprandial highest value 21.69 mu/L and 20.73 mu/L, much lower than those of Types I and II. The results also showed that correlation between insulin secretion level and blood glucose value was significantly negative. The paper also discussed the mechanism of insulin secretion condition of 3 syndrome types according to the theory of TCM.

[The efficacy of electromyographic biofeedback treatment on cardiovascular disease and the correlation of type A behavior and traditional Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation].

Using the method of trilineal relaxation training, electromyographic biofeedback technic (EMGBT) in the treatment of 400 cases of cardiovascular disease was reported. There were 274 (68.5%) cases of hypertension and coronary heart disease, more than other diseases. After treatment, average systolic blood pressure reduced 1.85 Kpa (13.86 mmHg), and average diastolic blood pressure reduced 1.29 Kpa (9.73 mmHg). The treatment was more effective for the type A behavior patients, so was it in the treatment of various extrasystoles (75%). To analyse the correlation between TCM syndrome differentiation and behavior pattern, it was found that there were 90.66% of Heart Yin deficiency and Liver Yang ( ) associated with Phlegm among type A behavior patients and 82.5% of Heart Qi ( ) Yang deficiency and Qi Yin deficiency among non-type A behavior patients. By means of relaxation training, EMGBT might reduce sympathetic tone, dilate blood vessels, so as to reduce blood pressure and treat arrhythmia.
