Surgical recontouring of a panfacial fibro-osseous deformity.

A report of the surgical management of a patient with a panfacial fibro-osseous deformity resulting from fibrous dysplasia, hyperparathyroidism, or both, is presented as a sequel to a previous article discussing the initial work-up and diagnostic considerations. The literature pertinent to the surgical correction of fibro-osseous lesions irformed through an oral approach. Regrowth of the lesion after three years was minimal in the maxilla and approximately 20% in the mandible.

The Mazabraud syndrome: case report and review of the literature.

The authors report a case of Mazabraud's syndrome in a patient aged 57 years with a history of fibrous dysplasia of the skeletal system which had commenced at the age of 10. This became associated with myxomas of the soft tissues at the age of 42. This rare association was described by Mazabraud in 1957. A review of the literature up to 1985 shows that 16 cases have been reported. These are reviewed.

Monostotic fibrous dysplasia of the spine: case report.

A case of monostotic fibrous dysplasia of the spine is presented. It was referred to us after a history of 3 years' pain. The site of the anomaly is so exceptional that it invited comparison with the six other cases described in the literature. This comparison produced resemblances which differentiate this particular type of monostotic fibrous dysplasia form that located at other sites, both in its clinical aspects and its radiographic appearances.

[Cartilaginous forms of Jaffé-Lichtenstein fibrous dysplasia].

Radiologic images suggestive of chondroma may be observed in polyostotic or mono-osteotic fibrous dysplasia and were detected in 11 out of 27 patients with the polyostotic form and 1 out of 7 with the mono-osteotic form. Histology in some cases showed cartilaginous tissue foci suggestive of an isolated chondroma or Ollier's disease. Pathogenicity of these cartilaginous lesions and relations between Ollier's chondrodysplasia and fibrous dysplasia are discussed.

Osteosarcoma of the mandible arising in fibrous dysplasia. A case report.

A Grade 3 chondroblastic osteosarcoma is reported in the mandible of a 37-year-old man with longstanding polyostotic fibrous dysplasia. There was also a history of multiple endocrine disturbances including hyperthyroidism, pituitary adenoma, and acromegaly. Malignant transformation of fibrous dysplasia is very rare and occurs most often when the lesion is polyostotic in distribution. The patient received preoperative radiation therapy followed immediately by marginal excision, i.e., left hemimandibulectomy. Forty-two months after initial presentation of the osteosarcoma of the mandible, he is alive with no evidence of disease.

Multiple myxomata of soft tissue associated with polyostotic fibrous dysplasia. A case report.

Polyostotic fibrous dysplasia with associated myxomata of soft tissue has been reported rarely. In most cases, the patient appears first with fibrous dysplasia and many years later presents with soft-tissue tumors. This is a report of a 57-year-old woman--an unusual case of soft-tissue myxomas with fibrous dysplasia. This case suggests that a patient developing myxomatous tumors of the soft tissues might be evaluated for the possibility of associated fibrous dysplasia.
