[Lymphatic system changes after the endolymphatic administration of an oil-based solution of dibunol].

Endolymphatic infusions of a 10 percent solution of dibunol in iodolipol or chromolymphotrast were given for prevention of lymphogenic dissemination of rectal cancer. Certain changes in X-ray pattern of lymphogenic metastases developed due to prolonged intravascular retention of the contrast agent. Under such conditions metastatic lesions took the form of collateral lymph flow development and enlargement and deformation of lymph nodes. The diagnostic value of lymphography appears to be still higher when several symptoms of metastatic involvement of the lymphatic system are in evidence.

[Effect of hydrocortisone on the membrane properties of innervated and denervated muscle fibers in frogs].

Two injections of 10, 100 or 1000 micrograms of hydrocortisone into the lymphatic sack with one-week interval or daily injections of 100 micrograms of the hormone did not hinder a decrease in the membrane resting potential, an increase of the input resistance and time constant of the membrane as well as appearance of nonsynaptic sensitivity to acetylcholine in muscle fibers developing by the 13-15th day after denervation of the muscle. In latter two cases, however, no increase of the input resistance and time constant of the membrane occurs. Administration of the same doses of drug to intact frogs led to a decrease of the membrane resting potential, increase of the time constant and input resistance of the membrane whereas daily injections reduced the sensitivity of muscle fibers to acetylcholine. Hydrocortisone seems to be unable to hinder the postdenervation changes in the muscle membrane whereas high doses of the hormone are able to induce changes in the muscle membrane.

[Anatomical and surgical justification for selective catheterization of the thoracic lymphatic duct and thoracic arteries for infusion immunochemotherapy of breast cancer].

An anatomo-topographic and operative study aimed at the elaboration of approaches and methods of the catheterization of the thoracic lympheduct and of the selective catheterization of the internal thoracic, external thoracic and acromiothoracic arteries for the regional infusion of activated proper lymphocytes and chemopreparations in breast cancer was carried out on 25 cadavers. An experimental injection of stained solutions proved that the selective catheterization of the thoracic arteries allows to create a significant concentration of injected drugs in the breast and regional lymphatic nodes without their propagation into adjacent regions, which is different from other methods of the regional chemotherapy in breast cancer.

[Effect of endolymphatic infusions of 5-fluorouracil on the course of acute experimental pancreatitis].

Experiments on 12 dogs with experimental acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis were made to assess the effect of endolymphatic therapy with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in a dose of 5 mg/kg. The changes in the activity of pancreatic enzymes and kinins in the blood, lymph and urine were studied before and after endolymphatic administration of 5-FU. After the dogs were sacrificed the pieces of endocrine tissue from different parts of the pancreas were exposed to morphological study. Endolymphatic administration of 5-FU for experimental acute pancreatitis reduced the activity of proteo- and lipolytic enzymes. The structural manifestation of the enzymological changes included the delimitation of the areas of necrosis in acinar tissue of the pancreas, improvement of intraorgan blood and lymph circulation.

[Endolymphatic polychemotherapy in treating cancer of the corpus uteri].

At the Rostov Research Oncological Institute 49 patients with uterine cancer were tested by endolymphatic infusion with the preliminary estimation of the tumor sensitivity to chemical drugs. To test the efficacy of the treatment applied was cytological control of the uterine aspirate every 5 days after the infusion prior to surgery, and also morphological changes in the removed tumors at different terms after endolymphatic polychemotherapy. After administration of the drugs at 2--5 day a cessation of the uterine bleeding, lessening or disappearance of pains were noted usually. Among 14 patients with an enlarged uterus as if in the 8--10 week pregnancy, its size was normalized in 11 patients following the treatment. In 5 of 8 patients with parametrial infiltrates the latter completely disappeared while in 3-separated from pelvic walls. Of 3 patients with vaginal metastases the latter disappeared in one case, in 2 cases these were 2/3--1/2 diminished. Total extirpation of the uterus with adnexa was performed in 41 patients, in three of them a histological assay showed no tumor in the removed specimens.

[Endolymphatic polychemotherapy of ovarian cancer].

The results of treatment in 118 patients with ovarian cancer are presented. The sessional doses were as follows: thioTEPA--200--300 mg or cyclophosphamide--3200--4000 mg+5-fluorouracil--2000--3000 mg. Despite the fact that 116 patients had III--IV stages of the disease, the objective effect of the treatment was observed in 95 of them. Thus, the complete disappearance of tumor was gained in 3 cases, reduction of the tumor size more than by 50%--in 68 patients, more than by 25%--in 18, an insignificant diminishing of tumor, the appearance of its mobility--in 13. Surgical intervention has been performed in 96 patients, that makes 82% of the operability. Supravaginal amputation of the uterus with adnexa and extirpation of the greater omentum have been performed in 76 cases, that yields 67% of resectability. Sole tumors have been removed in 11 patients, the intervention being confined to laparotomy in 6 (5.1%). Pronounced degenerative and necrobiotic alterations in the tumor were revealed by its histochemical assay in 22 patients 40, 50 and 60 days after endolymphatic infusion of chemotherapeutic drugs.
