Bibliographic control of audiovisuals or nonprint materials, generated at the point of publication, is almost nonexistent. The authors address this problem and present an outline of bibliographic elements that nonprint producers need to include on each individual production.
The current state of the health sciences library field is explored with emphasis on how changes in perspective and approach may be instituted. Special attention is paid to the attitudes and skills of the individual librarian as related to institutions and organizations.

A search via databases and indexes, as well as the American Dental Association package library collection, yielded no evidence of participation by American dentists in outboard motor or hydroplane inboard motor boat racing. There may be or have been such participants, but the contributions of Paul Sheppard Burnham, DDS are noteworthy and quite probably unique. Competing always as an amateur, his racing ability was respected; on many occasions he outraced professional drivers. Dr. Burnham led an interesting life. In his 83 years, he operated and soon thereafter traded automobile after automobile (a total of 49)--satisfying his love for fast and unusual cars. While practicing dentistry most of his adult life, he managed to become an integral part of the Rehoboth Beach, DE beach patrol, serving for ten years as captain of lifeguards and, in a few of his senior years, as chief. As the 20th century comes to a close, a good deal is written and spoken about those identified as unusual, vibrant, daring, spirited, competitive, self-confident, and colorful--travelers in the fast lane. Paul S. Burnham, DDS spent a great part of his life in the fast lane, with very few in front of him.

Many hospitals are unable to maintain a full-or even half-time professional librarian to support the professional and nonprofessional hospital staff, and to assist with the development of education programs. To answer this need, the Cleveland Health Sciences Library has developed the "circuit rider librarian" concept. A designated librarian from the staff visits a group of hospitals and, for a fee, provides library service which the hospital could not or would not readily supply for itself. The only limitations on the expansion of such a program are the interest of the hospitals, their geographic proximity to each other and to the resource library, and the ability of the latter to handle the increased demand.

Statistics obtained from the Association of Academic Health Sciences Library Directors (AAHSLD) member libraries were studied during 1991/92 to determine whether the size of the primary client pool is a better predictor of a library's interlibrary loan (ILL) borrowing than is collection size. In libraries with collections of fewer than 70,000 serial and monograph titles, size of the client base explained 25% of the variation in ILL borrowing. No measure of collection size helped explain a greater percentage of the variability. This relationship was not found in libraries with collections of more than 70,000 titles. Further research into the predictors of ILL borrowing volume in the relatively controlled environment of the OhioLINK system is proposed.
BACKGROUND: To acquire the recombinant human monoclonal antibodies and IgG to adeno-associated virus type 2 (AAVs-2). METHODS: Construct and pan human Fab antibody library to AAVs-2 was established from normal volunteer donors by using phage display technology and secreted expression in E.Coli system. The positive Fab clones were selected and characterized through ELISA and immunofluorescent assay, and then the heavy and light chain were sequenced. The gene of light chain and heavy chain Fd fragment of recombinant mAb were inserted into baculovirus expression vector pAC-L-Fc and construct expression vectors of intact IgG, then transfected insert sf-9 cell secreted expression in Baculovirus/Insert system. Immunoprecipitation test was used to detect its recognizing region. RESULTS: One clone named AAVs-31 showed positive responses in ELISA and IFA, the Fab was composed of gamma chain and kappa chain IgG was positive in ELISA and IFA. The IgG failed to detect nonassembled or denatured capsid proteins, but recognized the AAVs-2 stock from immunoprecipitation test. CONCLUSION: The authors isolated a clone of Fab and IgG to adeno-associated virus type 2 by phage display technology, they perhaps recognize an epitope which is formed during capsid assembly.
This paper describes the costs associated with providing library support for a series of distance-education courses at The Ohio State University (OSU). These courses are designed as a pilot program offered by the OSU Office of Geriatrics and Gerontology. Costs to the library are analyzed for document delivery, electronic reserves, reference services, and librarian activities. Also included are the results of a student evaluation survey. The students are full-time working professionals who cannot attend regularly scheduled classes on campus. Conclusions extrapolate costs for each course, student, and service.
