Prosthesis-periodontics relationship. 2. Increase of clinical crown and surgery for prosthetic purposes.

One of the most useful procedures in periodontal surgery for prosthetic purposes is the technique of clinical crown increase. However, the technique is not yet fully understood, especially by general dental clinicians who also work in periodontics. In the present study, in addition to a description of the technique, its indications are discussed and the reasons for choosing it as the most appropriate procedure are analyzed.

Pseudogingival prosthesis following periodontal surgery.

A technique for replacing interdental papillae with a prosthesis is described. Emphasis on the accuracy of the master impression is essential to a satisfactory result. Good oral hygiene and removal of the prosthesis at night are of paramount importance.

The processed provisional splint in periodontal prostheses.

A technique has been described whereby a heat-processed provisional splint was fabricated with the factors of esthetics and long-term serviceability being of prime importance. Additional advantages of the use of a well-adapted provisional restoration in a periodontal prosthesis are as follows: (1) They facilitate periodontal treatment by allowing total visibility and access to surgical sites when the splint is removed. (2) The splinting effect may enhance healing and periodontal-ligament reattachment by stabilizing mobile abutments. (3) The patient's ability to render adequate home care for a fixed prosthetic restoration may be evaluated and reinforced before making case restorations. (4) The patient's cooperation is assured during an extended period of restorative care when an esthetic, comfortable, provisional splint is provided.

Guidelines for periodontal prostheses serve esthetic and functional demands: a case report.

Periodontal-prosthesis guidelines have long been defined to specifically address dental reconstructions after moderate to advanced periodontal disease has occurred. More recently, specific dental techniques and materials have shown promise in addressing patients' increasing esthetic demands. However, treatment planning to achieve pleasing results for patients with advanced periodontitis requires a complex, multispecialty approach that is rarely discussed. A case report and literature review illustrate that the original periodontal-prosthesis guidelines not only remain useful today for obtaining esthetic results but also conform to recent understanding of maxillomandibular physiology.

Immediate and indirect woven polyethylene ribbon--reinforced periodontal-prosthetic splint: a case report.

The patient described in this case report required removal of several mandibular incisor teeth because of severe periodontal disease. She demanded an immediate replacement for these teeth, but, because of the periodontal conditions, it was not possible to use conventional approaches to fulfill her request. The decision was made to fabricate an immediate indirect-direct, reinforced, bonded composite resin periodontal prosthesis. The patient's extracted mandibular central incisors were used as pontic replacements. The procedure was expedient, inexpensive, and conservative, and the results were esthetic.
