Although 82,5% of the total body weight consist of mesenchymal tissues, only 1%--3% of all malignant tumors are soft tissue sarcomas. The necessary irradiation dose can only be determined after an exact histopathological diagnosis; therefore this diagnosis has to be made prior to the radiotherapy. Except the fibro- and liposarcomas, all sarcoma form very early lymphogenic metastases. All sarcomas show a remarquable tendency to form recurrences. Surgery is the primary therapy. After that, an irradiation of the tumor region and the regional lymph nodes should be effected under all circumstances. We have treated and checked up 749 patients. After this therapeutic method, the five-year survival rate in the stages T1 and T2 is 60% for the myxosarcoma, 67% for the angiosarcoma, 41% for the fasciculated sarcoma, 40% for the globocellular sarcoma, 30% for the polymorphous sarcoma, 69% for the fibrosarcoma, and 61% for the leiomyosarcoma.

We report a case of carcinosarcoma of the parotid gland in a 72-year-old Japanese man. The patient noticed a rapidly enlarging hard mass in the right parotid gland. He underwent radical parotidectomy with cervical lymph node dissection. The resected tumor measured 3.5 x 4.5 cm and histopathologically showed carcinomatous and sarcomatous components. The carcinomatous component consisted of large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC), squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma not otherwise specified, while the sarcomatous component included spindle cell sarcoma not otherwise specified, so-called myxosarcoma and rhabdomyosarcoma. The LCNEC component was predominant within the whole tumor. The diagnoses of LCNEC and rhabdomyosarcoma were also confirmed immunohistochemically. With regard to histopathogenesis, based on the lack of histopathological evidence and antecedent history of pleomorphic adenoma, we considered the present case to be de novo, not expleomorphic adenoma.
Focal myxoid change is a well-recognised feature of synovial sarcoma, but the presence of a predominantly myxoid stroma is rare. We describe a new case of myxoid synovial sarcoma in which marked myxoid change initially obscured the diagnosis leading to confusion with malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor. The patient was a 16 year old man who presented with a left dorsal foot tumor. The diagnosis of synovial sarcoma was suspected on histological and immunohistochemical studies and confirmed with cytogenetic analysis. Recognition of this rare histologic variant of synovial sarcoma is important because it can easily be mistaken for other myxoid spindle cell neoplasms, potentially resulting in suboptimal therapy.

A case of primary malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the breast is reported. The patient was a 48-yr-old woman with a huge tumor involving almost the entire left breast. The central portion of her left breast was already rotted by extensive necrosis and inflammation. She was treated by radical mastectomy and axillary lymphadenectomy to level I. Pathologic examination supported by an immunohistochemical staining confirmed the tumor as malignant fibrous histiocytoma of giant cell type. Axillary lymph nodes were free from tumor metastasis. She had not taken any postoperative adjuvant therapy. The metastasis to lungs was found 2 months after the operation, and she died within 6 months.
