[Treatment of tooth discoloration in adolescents with mucoviscidosis].

The very high density of adolescents suffering from mucoviscidosis in the North Finistère, and followed at the Roscoff Hélio-Marin Centre, has led the authors to deal with the dental colourations of these patients. The severity this tetracycline, dyschromy, varies with the intake of the medicament. Several therapies are possible, the technique of composite laminate facings is the most used as it adapts particularly well to the cases of these adolescents.

[Tooth discoloration as a rare complication of septorhinoplasty].

BACKGROUND: Surgeons should thoroughly consider the clinical implications of elective surgery such as septorhinoplasty for functional and cosmetic improvement of the appearance of the nose. Complications may jeopardize the intended result of this surgery. CASE REPORT: We report on the rare complication of devitalization of two incisors in the maxilla with disturbing discoloration after performing a septorhinoplasty in a 23-year-old woman. The patient underwent a serial hydrogen peroxide bleaching and a root canal procedure. CONCLUSION: The osteotomy of a huge basal crista that compromised neurovascular dental supply could be a possible mechanism of this event. Even though such a complication after septorhinoplasty is extremely rare, patients should be informed of this eventually prior to surgery, if only for legal reasons.

Study on high-strength plastic teeth. Tooth discoloration.

Conventional plastic teeth (CV teeth) are inferior to porcelain teeth in maintaining an adequate esthetic appearance with wear and discoloration, and thus have a shorter period of durability. Recently, high-strength plastic teeth (HS teeth) have been developed and applied to overcome the wear problems of CV teeth. Since HS teeth made of hard resin are still susceptible to staining with pigments, it has been observed that the esthetics of removable partial dentures made from such plastic teeth are gradually impaired in many patients. To investigate the susceptibility of HS teeth to pigments, we conducted an in vitro study by immersing three types of artificial teeth in three coloring liquids. It was found that the HS teeth tended to be less susceptible to the test pigments than the CV teeth to various degrees. In contrast, they showed markedly stronger susceptibility to the pigments than porcelain teeth. For all three artificial tooth types, daily tooth cleaning with an ultrasonic vibrator had a tendency to reduce the coloration in comparison with their counterparts without ultrasonic cleaning.
