Historically, wearing adornments on pierced body parts has been associated with many cultures as manifestations of religious or cultural identities. Currently, its use has a broad acceptance among young people. The most common sites for piercings are the tongue and lower lip in the oral cavity. Several complications may be associated with this practice with the most frequently observed being halitosis, periodontitis, tooth fracture, glossitis, and the formation of abscesses. This paper is a case report of a patient who had a complication from a piercing on the tongue located under the overlying mucosa. It also suggests a local habit was a possible initiator of this complication.

Tunnel preparations for restoration of Class II carious lesions in primary molars preserve the marginal ridge and minimize sacrifice of healthy tooth substructure. Materials with improved bonding to tooth structure and increase potential for fluoride release allow Class II restorations without "extension for prevention".
An endodontic treatment has been effected on 36 extracted teeth, using drills; certain endodontic posts presently on the market have been successively inserted inside 18 teeth: Flexipost (Essential Dental System); Parapost Plus (Whaledent); dentatus (Dentatus). The teeth have been sectionized and watched through a photomicroscope to check an eventual presence of dentinal damages.
Restoration of severely damaged teeth requires comprehensive, carefully planned pretreatment. This report of a patient who sustained traumatic injury to the maxillary anterior teeth demonstrates the use of accelerated forced eruption to strengthen damaged roots, allowing placement of crowns and eliminating the need for a fixed partial denture.

The prevalence of dental injuries in the permanent dentition was studied in a population comprising 1635 Swedish school children aged 7-15 years. A retrospective study of dental injuries in the deciduous dentition was also carried out. A total of 483 (30%) children in the material had experienced dental injuries. Twelve per cent of the injuries had been sustained before the age of 7 years and 18 per cent after that age. The majority of injuries had occurred between the ages 3-10 years. In the permanent dentition, over 75 per cent of the injuries recorded had been sustained before the age of 11 years. Boys had a higher trauma frequency than girls, the sex ratio being 1.2:1 in the deciduous dentition and 1.6:1 in the permanent dentition. Thirty per cent of the injured deciduous teeth required some kind of treatment. The corresponding figure for the permanent dentition was 46 per cent.
