[Perspectives of the culture and the extent of teaching in the nursing school at the Federal University of Bahia].

The present article emphasizes the importance of the University to maintain the indisociability among its finality activities whereas, at the moment, this indisociability shows up in a non compensated form. It comprehends a brief retrospective analysis of the extension activities, reporting the actual projects and the extension perspective at the College of Nursing, Federal University of Bahia, directing the attention to the fact that extension ought to be developed through a process of articulation with teaching and research, as these activities are complementary and different, but never unequal hierarchically.

Condyloma acuminatum: its histopathological pattern.

Condyloma acuminatum is one of the clinical manifestations of papillomavirus infection. The classical histopathological features are already known and do not constitute a diagnostic problem. Clinically, it has been classified into growth or proliferative, full-expression, and regressive or persistent phases, with the histopathological aspects of these distinct phases being well documented in equine cutaneous papillomas. We have designed a protocol of histopathological analysis in order to investigate the possibility of identifying the evolutional phases in human condylomata acuminata. Sixty condylomata acuminata from the files of the Department of Pathology, Universidade Federal Fluminense, were studied regarding koilocytosis, paraceratosis, acantosis, basal cell hyperplasia and mononuclear cell infiltrate. After an individual analysis and comparison of the cases, the main differential aspects of condyloma acuminatum were: koilocytosis, transepithelial lymphocytic infiltrate and basal cell hyperplasia. Thus, condylomatous lesions can be histopathological differentiated in three major patterns: proliferative, viral replication activity and regressive.

Report of the Graduate Medical Education National Advisory Committee and health manpower development.

The federally chartered Graduate Medical Education National Advisory Committee projected a shortage of approximately 12,000 general and child psychiatrists by 1990. The committee's methods of analysis and recommendations have been criticized on grounds ranging from the accuracy of its data to the appropriateness of federal involvement in free-market issues. Yet the GMENAC report appears to have contributed to a recent reversal of psychiatric recruitment trends, and psychiatrists should be aware of its further implications for clinical and academic psychiatry. We analyzed the GMENAC process as one element among many that will determine future health care personnel development trends.
